Watched both films over the last few days...Judge Dredd really isn’t that bad. It’s got cheese and is very much a vehicle for Stallone...and I’m not sure how or why Schneider’s character survived the whole film...but it’s an entertaining futuristic action flick. Diane Lane looked great and I always thought Rico and the giant robot were cool as hell.
Dredd...is just amazing! Loved it so much. Hadn’t seen it for several years and I kinda forgot how much I bought Dredd as a total badass in the film. The female sidekick was pretty cute too and I was kinda surprised to see she hadnt been in much I’d heard of. Dredd is played by the same guy who plays Billy Butcher from the Boys and try as I did I just couldn’t see him. Great job.
I want more from this universe.

Judge Dredd is pure cheese, everyone is in on the joke and it isn't terrible, just mediocre. The ABC Warrior, the flying vehicle chase and the Angel Gang are more memorable than anything in Dredd.
Dredd is brooding and comes off even sillier because of that. There is a scene in which he outruns an explosion that nobody could possibly outrun and that is when I officially stopped caring. There is literally no sense that he is ever in any danger. The movie is a neat scenario and has neat visual style, but the actual script is extremely generic. It is also not a cool movie, it just tries really hard to be. It is an empty and cold movie that works like a video game that you can't play. A bit better than Judge Dredd, but still mediocre.
I rate both 5/10.

Judge Dredd looks great. It is a shame because if they had ditched the clone story and kept him closer to character it could have been pretty good. The costumes are very accurate too.

Im probably alone here but I enjoy Judge Dredd over Dredd. Nope. Not alone. I feel exactly the same way. Judge Dredd is a really fun sci-fi action flick. Stallone is in top form and totally looks and acts the part. It looks fantastic and has a neat story and villain. Dredd I found to be a bit soulless to be honest. Reminded me of the original RoboCop in tone and in its use of ultraviolence, but without any of that film's grotesque charm.

I prefer Dredd 3D but Judge Dredd is watchable enough. While some of the cgi is a bit dodgy, the practical effects like that kickass robot and some of the action scenes aren't bad. The costumes look absurd but fit the world they set up. I think some of the cast is fine except for Diane Lane and Schneider;Armand Assante I think is the highlight for how crazy he gets. But it feels like a first draft at times. As for Schneider I thought I read somewhere that he was originally supposed to die but then they changed it. Might had been to get past the MPAA, they had to cut so much violence to avoid an X rating apparently.

When push comes to shove, I believe Dredd to be the noticeably superior film. What's most telling for me is when the Stallone film was released, I was still very much supportive of the comic book to film movement. I was seeing all the films which fit into that genre as much as I could - even SPAWN.
Despite what few attributes it had, the original did very little for me. Outside of some classic SNL sketches, Rob S. should have never appeared in anything.
By the time Dredd came out, I was so sick to fucking death of comic book/superhero flicks. It was already a nauseatingly oversaturated market that I had had it with those films. I was done with it, yet I was acutely aware(I saw Dredd several years after it's debut, and not in the original 3D), that what I was seeing was a very competent, effective, stylish well made action flick. It worked. Even though I was so sick of the genre, I had to admit to myself I was seeing a superior action film.
The death of Mama is perhaps one of the most beautiful death scenes in film history. I was mesmerized.
Though full of some frustratingly common action cliches, Dredd is easily the better film in my opinion.
Edit, Stallone had two iconic film characters in Rocky and Rambo, but in this case, Karl Urban totally owned him in Dredd.

She fell for four fucking hours big whoop bring out the Oscar awards for best slowmo Evaah!!! As for you and the superhero oversaturation drivel that drones on film forums keep repeating: quit watching them then.

Everyone knows. Give it a rest. No one here likes you or gives a damn about your opinions. Anyone is of course entitled to an opinion, but when everyone dislikes you, it should be pretty telling. Only a troll is this willfully obvious. Maybe being less butt hurt will do you some good. Just a thought.....

You still haven't explained to me how a crackhead falling to the ground for four hours is Oscar worthy. More of the same BS expected from you. Uh, where in the hell did I say anything about Dredd(2012)was Oscar worthy? No really, point that out to me.(Maybe the production design?). That scene with Mama was impressive to me. Sorry it got your panties in a wad. The scene presented a solid catharsis to the overall conflict. It had a very low bar to live up to, given the Stallone film. You ask a lot of confrontational questions, to be subversive, but you don't back anything up. Pathetic. Try harder.

Rob Schneider did not annoy me as much as Jon Cryer in Superman 4 or JarJar. I didnt mind a wimpy minor criminal being a conduit into the world. There were too many other problems with it besides him--although the biggest problem beyond Stallone (who was ok with the helmet on but just not right for it) is the conspiracy clone story. Making Dredd a clone was a terrible idea and also the scene with him and Hershey chilling out in the apartment--I got the impression they were copying Demolition Man. They could have kept Assante as a clone or experimental judge project--but just leave Dredd out of that.
I liked those Internal Affairs guys that come to arrest him. The costume design and the look of the city was great.
And the mutant hillbilly guy with the head adjustment control. Some of it reminds me of the comics I had read but Stallone was a mistake to be in this. They said he was responsible for many changes--but I assume the cloned Dredd story did not originate with him.

Sylvester Stallone had screen presence and was the only actor who could've played Dredd back then if you have any alternatives then I would love to hear them, but I don't think with most contrarian opinions made for sake of it that you will.

This is not me being condescending, it is me just pointing out the wonderful interesting world of subjectivity. "The death of Mama is perhaps one of the most beautiful death scenes in film history" - You "Complete indifference to the scene" - Me I respect that you and other people feel this great reaction from the movie and that scene. I did not, though I understand why someone would feel something special for the scene. I would tell a certain user to take note and be humble if I believed that user wasn't a troll who argues just for the sake of it.

Lots of people had screen presence. Who could use their lower face effectively in such a part. I think lots could besides Stallone.
Tom Berenger, Bruce Campbell, Christopher McDonald, Gary Graham, ...

Just as I thought all those actors lack the stature and screen presence Sylvester had. That's why I always ask for the preferred alternatives from users for roles because they're always letdowns anyway. Bruce Campbell fucking hell.
