Any fans of this comedy starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane? A fun 90's comedy that is still enjoyable to this day thanks to the humor and performances. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: The Birdcage (1996) - 2.5 out of 4 stars"Polished if obvious remake of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES will please anyone who hasn't seen or doesn't remember the original: Williams is fairly subdued as a South Beach, Miami, nightclub owner who's forced to ask high-strung, drag-queen performer/partner (Lane) to hide away while his son brings his prospective in-laws--an ultra-conservative couple--to dinner. Screenplay by Elaine May, who added fresh lines to the foolproof blueprint of the original."

Well, I quite like it, but Le Cage Aux Folles is much funnier.

I thought it was hilarious.
I don't really remember enough about it and about the French original to make a comparison now. I remember thinking at the time that the original was more subtle and the American remake had a much broader humour, but that both were very funny.

Oh, I really love this one a lot. What I always admired about it is was how genuinely loving the relationship between Robin Williams and Nathan Lane seemed. At a time when gay characters were still largely either vilified or treated as clowns, this movie takes what should be two paper-thin, flamboyant stereotypes and treats them as real human beings and never once questions the idea that they could've successfully raised a child. It (and certainly La Cage aux Folles before it) was kinda ahead of its time in a way.

A 90s comedy classic. Williams and Lane have great chemistry and both give great performances.
Hank Azaria is a hoot as Agador.
Gene Hackman in drag is a sight to behold.
The other thing I like is the cinematography. The light colors gave a cool vibe to the movie.
Such a well directed and written movie.

Love it, a fantastic comedy. One of those films I like to catch once a year or so.
Best part of it? Gene Hackman's performance. He was in a comedy with two comedic heavyweights, and he more than held his own. The first time I saw him in that dress was one of the biggest laughs I ever had at a movie theater.
9/10

It is one of those movies for me, that no matter, if I spot it as I'm flipping channels- I stop and watch it. We all have a mental list of those movies, and this is at the top of mine. There's something undeniably fun about the movie. Plus, Williams and Lane are at the top of their game, their shared chemistry is off the charts, their son actually kept up pretty well (either Williams or Lane can act many of their costars from their careers, off the screen) to them, the surrounding cast (from Hackman to the sound mixing guy at the club) are really good, they have some excellent character actors in the mix, the music is perfect, and overall it is just fun.
