Nearly every movie ever made has Evil winning over half the time. And as we see from all the responses, there are way too many "hate mongering" movies made just to depress people and weaken their spirits already.

I feel that ending of Angel Heart lets down the rest of what went before it. It didn't need supernatural glowing eyes on the kid, just a lingering shot. It was cheesy. Parker may have well have watched Rosemary's Baby.

Yes, the ending of the frighteningly titled Elvira: Mistress Of The Dark - 88' can attest to this....

Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal Lecter is walking free and choosing his next targets at will. Autopsy of Jane Doe.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
A man kills a notorious bank robber and murdering thief, and he is treated like he killed the Messiah.
Lives a miserable life of isolation and depression, and eventually gets murdered by a guy who never met Jesse James, and on top of all that, the guy who murdered Bob Ford gets a pardon from the Governor.

The Blair Witch Project Seed A Serbian Film Chaos Mask Maker You mean Chaos that shitheaded remake of Last House on the Left? ha ha! Yes, Chaos was so dumb and obnoxious in how the director thought he was such a badass. Terrible movie.

I think the ending of the Godfather suggests Michael wins but he wins by turning to evil. That's why he closes the door on his wife.
The ending of Part 2 seems to be that he is now being punished for his actions--although you could say he did what he had to keep the family going but at the price of his soul. Would his father have authorized killing Fredo? No way. The story suggested that Vito was too old-fashioned for the times--he couldn't be as ruthless as the newer generation--Michael could be, but at what price?
JAWS -- a shark is minding his own business in his own territory and gets harassed by land-dwelling crazies who keep throwing themselves at him so he is forced to eat them--then they hunt him down mercilessly and blow him up!

I completely agree with that; a changing climate of underworld crime calls for a new breed of mafia chieftain. And yes, it costed Michael dearly.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back The Dark Knight They're stretches, but think about... I was thinking of mentioning Empire, but I can see why you'd say that. Evil did win although it was more of a battle victory than a complete war victory. But still, a win is a win. I think that's part of why that movie is so well beloved amongst the SW movies. It shows the true level of desperation of the Rebellion versus Vader and the almighty Empire. The rebels lose Hoth. Han is taken away. Luke got pwned. Leia doesn't know which way to go. Lando loses cloud city, and he and Chewie go off doing who knows what. Its a great cliffhanger ending that's more gritty than the optimistic end of ANH. Even ROTJ has a sadness at the heart of its ending. Ultimately Luke is alone. And Dark Knight has that morally ambiguous ending where the heroes win, but they also lose. It makes these movies a bit more mature and interesting than the average of their genre.

Well, Robert Ford did shoot an unarmed man in the back, and it was more for his own vanity than any kind of heroic purpose. A man who was also the father of two young children. I'm not saying Jesse James wasn't evil, but let's not make Robert Ford a martyr either. That's what makes that film so great, it leaves questions more unanswered than answered. I thought most everyone in the film has a touch of evil attached to them.

Parker may have well have watched Rosemary's Baby. Yeah, the eyes on the kid are a little stupid, but I think everything before that works great. Even the glowing eyes on De Niro are kinda creepy.

Chinatown There is nothing good about the ending, true horror. Your turns...... That was the film I immediately thought of. The ending so disgusted me when I saw it, I still feel revolted thinking of it now.

The Wicker Man shocked me when I saw it. Unaccustomed to watching horror films, I assumed everything would be all right, I couldn’t believe how it ended. it was as if James Bond had got eaten by the sharks.

There have been MANY good selections on this thread, but honestly I don't think there's ever been a film with a more bleak and awful ending as Chinatown. To think what that young girl had in store for her, and the fact that nothing could be done about it makes the ending so chilling.
