Having now finished watching the shattering, finely detailed 4-part HBO documentary ALLEN VS FARROW and following up on what is revealed in the devastating and damning 3rd and 4th episodes with some added research of my own I realize I have been wrong all those years.
I have adored Woody Allen as a writer and director ever since first seeing ANNIE HALL in 1977, and have watched every one of his films except for his latest, Rifkin's Festival (2020), and have generally stood up for Allen - despite small nagging doubts ringing in the back of my mind. So it's quite difficult to finally admit that I have, like so many other people, been wrong to believe Allen's spin. I will still watch Rifkin's Festival, and I will probably still revisit some of my favorites from his back catalogue. But while I am still open to his art, I have lost all respect for him as a man, and I now believe Dylan 100%.
I literally wept for the last 20 minutes of the documentary, and I now have such respect for Mia Farrow - an amazing woman and a truly wonderful mother, and Dylan, who has healed herself and whose courage and strength I am in awe of. I wish her, her husband and their daughter every happiness in the future. Nobody deserves it more. She really has her life together, and she knocked me for a six with her candor and humanity.
ALLEN VS FARROW is an outstanding, fascinating, heartbreaking, but ultimately inspiring documentary which I would urge everyone here to watch. I watched the four episodes one a week over four weeks, and the viewing of them has been an eye-opening and emotional ride.

Did no watch the documentary. Did Moses Farrow participate? As a child he supported Dylan but switch sometime in his teens, he now believes Woody, thinks his mom manipulated them all and is now a therapist.
This is like so many other situations we are dealing with . There is not enough evidence to decide. Woody has every reason to lie, and every reason to defend himself.
I know that little Dylan appeared in Crimes and Misdemeanors, a film in which Woody defends the idea that if you can detach yourself from feeling guilt you can committ any crime and get away with it. His lingering shots of her as she and another child pick at the icing on a wedding cake, and his much too close relationship with his niece left me queasy , and this was before the Dylan story came out.

Some of the things Moses is currently saying, like there was no train set, was contradicted by the police notating there was a set when they first investigated the scene. He also told the police he was with Allen the whole time, but said differently in the police report. So two probable falsehoods from Team Woody does not help his case much...not that he can be brought to justice now. But maybe Dylan can get the last laugh on the master comedian.

From what I know of families where abuse is present, there is often a child or children who support the abusive parent. I have no trouble believing Mia was a quirky parent. My thing is there will never be the evidence we need for a clear decision . There is something terribly wrong there, but they need to work it out. Dylan has just gotten the clearest hearing she will ever get. Most victims in these situations can barely get anyone to listen to their story, and there is often no retribution for the perpetrator. I hope she and Ronan can make peace with it all. As to Woodyโs films, I still watch some of them, and I am still uncomfortable.

Dylan Farrow is certainly at peace now Marshamae, and it's beautiful to see. It took three years for HBO and the directors to get Mia Farrow to agree to talk in this movie. I defy you to watch this series and not have the utmost respect for Mia Farrow. To see her very real, very human terror and fear - in archival footage outside the courtroom - during the custody battle is heartbreaking. Meanwhile, a controlled Woody is playing to the gallery. But boy oh boy, did the judge see through Woody's act.

I got the feeling that Moses might have received money from Woody or somehow resolved it with him to the point that he changed his story. Ronan said Woody offered to pay for his college completely if he would renounce his mother publicly, which he did not do. Not saying that's what happened, but it's possible.

Hannah and Her Sisters (1986): Hannah's husband falls in love with her sister Lee, while her hypochondriac ex-husband rekindles his relationship with her sister Holly. I would not say he is purging his guilt so much as making his case. Woody is brash, aggressive, used to getting the last word, aggressive towards women. I doubt he had much, or any guilt. Think of his quotes โ half the country is doing it, the heart wants what it wants. โ Even his most benign films like Radio land , have passages about throwing off the old taboos, as when his fish loving uncle goes next door to yell at the neighbors about playing the radio on Yom Kippur and returns full of Marxist explanations and chopped liver, determined that faith and observance are superstitions. In Hannah he not only cracks on incest( that fantasy about his wifeโs sister turns up a lot. Was he interested in Tisa or Stephanie?) , he gives USA Jews eye view of Catholic teaching. I laughed like everyone else at the rolling eye Jesus and the Hellmanโs mayonnaise. But it was a pretty strong statement about the roots of belief in culture.
