I always watch The Quiet Man. It boasts many really Irish actors and was filmed on location. The music and the story are fun, the performances are magical . The only thing I do not really like are the portrait poses at the end, but they do give you a good look at the actors.
films I am thinking of watching
Shake Hands with the Devil - a very good JAMES Cagney performance as a medical doctor , a teacher in Dublin, who is secretly a chief in the IRA. A good script about how far you go for a cause, with Glynis Johns and Dana Winter.
WIDOW’s Peak- a nice comedy about stuffy Irish widows being taken in by a con woman, played to the T by Natasha Richardson, Mia Farrow as a widow they reject and Joan Plowright as the head of the stuffy ladies .
Girl With Green Eyes- a lovely part for Rita Tushigham and sidekick Lynne Redgrave about a shy Naive girl moving to Dublin and falling for the wrong man... or maybe not? With Peter Finch
i am not sure I am up to the Dead although it may be my favorite film about Ireland . In its way it is full of despair, and I am not sure I can manage that. Through the movie, Gabriel looks on at his friends and relatives as they celebrate Christmas. He watches their foibles, their drinking, flirting, the passionate politics and efforts to retain something of the lost past . He watches from high up, sure that his own life and his marriage to Greta are on a secure footing of comfortable security, until Greta reveals an old lost love and suddenly he realizes he never knew her at all.
anyone have other films from the ould sod to enjoy tomorrow? In between bouts of the Garth Game of Course !

The Wind That Shakes The Barley - a relatively recent film about Ireland fighting the Brits and then each other.

Odd MAN OUT IS ON TOMORROW. I have never seen it so I will give it a whirl. I have always heard Mason and Robert Newton were wonderful.
Finian’s Rainbow is on tomorrow too. I really like a lot of things about this film. Francis Ford Coppola foolishly fired Hermès Pan half way thru because he was insisting on filming Astaire full body so you could see him dance, a battle Hermès Pan and Astaire had fought and won in the 30’s. I don’t think Fred was filmed any other way since Top Hat. But Coppola wanted to move his camera, show Fred’s feet etc. Fortunately most of Fred’s dancing was already filmed. Then, I am told, Warner decided to change the aspect to 70 mm, which involved cropping the top and bottom , so more of Fred’s footwork disappeared.
I am amazed he took on all the dancing over rough ground . He is charming as an old Irish cheat . Tommy Steele as the Leprochaun is great, and Petulia clark was very good on camera, her singing of Old Devil Moon was spectacular. It is a strange fey tale , and the male lead playing Willy Mahoney was one of those performances that seem like it is from a different film. Btw, Fred was not entirely foreign to Ireland. His sister and former partner, Adele, married Lord CHARLES Cavendish and made her home at Lismore Castle in County Waterford.

Based on my knowledge of your tastes maybe try the film adaptation of THE SECRET SCRIPTURE. Strong old school romantic drama ...a non linear narrative with two time frames.....Beautiful period detail and it's so well done any plot contrivance nitpicking seems churlish...... Plus Vanessa in a juicy role as the heroine's older self rather than a glorified cameo bit. Much less romantic (and probably less for OP) CALM WITH HORSES offers a contemporary coast of Eire setting as the muscle for the local drug mafia gets out of his depth when tasked with a revenge killing... it was my FILM of 2020 by some margin - opened the week of UK lockdown 1 to rave reviews... and no audience.
