They torpedo it by making it a comedy. That's sure to guarantee maximum suckage.
It sounded more interesting in a medieval setting.

Are they banking on name recognition? I've never heard of it. Could be good, but I don't think the name and concept will mean much to many people.

I KNOW of the game I couldn’t tell you anyone who played it, but I have heard it is fun. I don’t know if the game was a hit or not, so why they’re making a movie is beyond me.

I don’t mind it being a comedy cause I know the game CAN be funny depending on who you play with. Honestly I’m really bothered by the director of SCARE ME making this. I tried watching that for like 30 minutes and then zoned out and it became background noise. I’m worried it’s gonna be something like that.

youtu.be/SxKy2lrGBBQOne thing I noticed about this game is how colorful it is. That also may be because the game is cel shaded. The movie looks drab and boring. I get it that this is not a 100% recreation of the game, but geez at least try to make this look entertaining. I hope the trailer is at least enough to make me wanna see it.

I thought that it was still going to be set in a medieval village. I thought they said it was being moved to modern-day Vermont.

But I thought you said you thought it was a medieval village--or do you mean the filming is in Vermont but it is still medieval? I thought they said it was modernized.

Oh did I? I said the game took place in a medieval village. The movie does not. Sorry for the confusion.

Ha ok.
I think this is a good example where someone like the director of Dog Soldiers should have been at least considered for it-I hear his last movie was awful but it would make more sense. Instead, it's like they recruit based on someone they know from a Greenwich village cocktail party. There's no thought about audience interest. They need more directors like Chuck Russell or Eric Red or something--they aren't being recruited now. The politics are obvious.

It was a different approach to doing an anthology, and parts of it were cool. The whole staginess approach was a kind of clever way to get around the obvious low budget. But it did kinda feel like a short stretched out into feature length. I think it would have made for a more engaging 20 mins short or something. But the director showed he's resourceful and able to stretch a budget in creative ways if nothing else. Maybe having someone else write the script will help since one of the weak points of that movie was just down to spending all your time with two annoying people.

What do the politics have to do with anything? They only hire people who fit the apparatchik qualifications.
It's noticeable, they want diversity which for them means "no white guys."
It doesn't lead to better movies, it leads to a loss of merit because they promote people based on things other than talent or audience focus. The two big budget Dracula movies coming out are being directed by Asian women from what I read--the Blumhouse and Universal ones. That's not accidental, that's politics.
Affirmative Action hiring which is really a bad thing to do with art. It leads to bad art.

Not familiar with the game, but it's basically a werewolf whodunit? Hasn't that been done before?

Not familiar with the game, but it's basically a werewolf whodunit? Hasn't that been done before? Pretty much. This one will likely be kinda tongue-in-cheek like the game apparently is. But at least it's been a while since there was one a werewolf whodunit. So it might feel kinda fresh. Who the hell knows if it turns out OK, but the basic premise isn't terrible.

I watched this last night and enjoyed it, it's not much of a werewolf movie, or even a horror movie, but I loved the cast, the setting, and thought it was a well written and entertaining comedy/thriller. B-

Saw it this morning. Perfectly decent and fun. I like the AT&T girl, and the guy from Veep, and the one from What We Do in the Shadows. This is nothing special, but it was enjoyable.
I know it was low budget, but it would be nice for a werewolf movie to go full werewolf. This one gets there, but most of the recent werewolf movies (not that there are many of them) seem to shy away from really showcasing their monster. They try to use it as a suspense builder, but you know it's because they can't budget for it.
Also, without trying to spoil anything I'll say that the reveal of the monster sort of discards what is best about the werewolf mythology.
Still, a good time waster
