No. Just no. The campiness is not why people dislike Justice League. If that were the case then Aquaman in all it's campy glory should be disliked as much as Justice League and it isn't. Well if you're bringing in characters that were established as fallen heroes in a film with a very somber tone, you need some of that grim from at least one of them (Batman) to come back. Aquaman was campy as hell, yes, but it worked in the context of his movie. That is one of the problems, it tries to be both and is unable to be. The movie has more problems than just the personality disorder though, such as the action scenes suck and the villain is terrible. Batman V Superman is campy too btw, it just does it in a darker way with a more straight face. Superman (1978) is as good as it is because it is fun and has a good story and true emotion and has a voice of it's own, though I am still not much of a fan. Justice League suffers from many of the same problems as the even worse Superman III. Completely uninspired writing, bad directing, a boring villain and is a tonal mess. Superhero movie filmmakers that want to combine serious, emotional, dark and camp, need to sit down and watch Spider-Man 2 and take notes. It is probably the greatest balancing act in the entire superhero genre.

Yeah it wasn’t that bad. I actually enjoyed seeing it in theaters. A rewatch made me dislike it, but it’s not horrible. There’s just nothing to it. Very empty.

He is more vanilla than many of his counterparts, but he makes well made and entertaining movies. Age of Ultron suffers somewhat in the storytelling department and some of the action is too close up and too edited, but the movie has personality and is definitely entertaining. It hits all the emotional cues imo. He is a more interesting filmmaker than someone like J.J. Abrams as far as I'm concerned.

I feel that his strengths (where they are sparingly present) are in his writing of dialogue more than anything else. The first Avengers comes to mind as a well-structured action story with a ton of fun dialogue, but it looks like a local news team shot it. Everything about its visuals are bad. Then you have someone like Abrams - who I believe is an excellent technical director, but should never write a movie under any circumstance. He has his weaknesses (excessive camera movement and lens flairs), but overall he can shoot a movie really well.

He doesn't have an original bone in his body. It isn't his writing that is the main issue, it is the lack of any authenticity in the presentation. Alien: Covenant for example is a mess from a writing standpoint, but from a visual standpoint it is magnificent. J.J. Abrams could only dream of being an authentic visual filmmaker.

I can actually mostly agree with that. Whedon just isn’t much better imo. His writing bit is old and tired and his direction is mediocre at best.

How the fuck was Alien Covenant visually impressive? It was mostly wetlands and forest. Space was good though.

No. It would be funny to find out that I like both directors more than you. The Avengers - 7/10 Star Trek - 7/10 Avengers: Age of Ultron - 7/10 The rest are different levels of average for me. Abrams has the lowest low though with Rise of Skywalker (Into Darkness isn't much better) and Serenity is not my kind of movie at all. Serenity really does suffer from all the issues you bring up and in spades. It might just be my lack of emotional response when it comes to Abrams movies. Abrams has shown no signs that he could ever make a movie like Much Ado About Nothing.

I'm sorry I made this thread. Fuck both of these movies and fuck superhero movies in general. You take this stuff too seriously. They are just movies. I'm not sorry you made the thread, because I like seeing people's differing opinions. All of a sudden you are like fuck this and fuck that. What crawled up your ass all of a sudden? I am just curious. This is why I rarely get annoyed at other people's opinions about movies, as long as they don't expect me to agree with them because they can't deal with the fact that I disagree.

You take this stuff too seriously. Said the pot to the kettle. Fair enough, but your last response came out of nowhere. I don't see the connection to the start of the thread to you now saying fuck superhero movies. I am curious of why the angry response to the entire thread that YOU started. What is on your mind. This is me being genuine.

Justice League is not that bad of a movie, but it's just that the bar has been raised so high for superhero movies. DC made a mistake not giving Flash or Aquaman their own films before tackling Justice League. Cyborg's character development was definitely hurt by the reduction in screen time. Notwithstanding the erasing of Henry Cavill's moustache, the CGI during the battle in Russia had some atrocious looking CGI. Steppenwolf was too generic of a villain with a lack of a distinctive personality. Also, he wanted to terraform Earth, which is the same scheme from Man of Steel.
That said, I did love Cavill's portrayal of Superman in the film, especially during the final battle. The Whedon reshoots stick out, but Aquaman sitting on the Lasso of Truth got a laugh out of me.

He said he thinks it is slightly better than the 2017 version, but still bad. I might not even bother watching the Snyder Cut. Sounds like I'd have to sit through a 4 hour version that is only slightly better than the mind-numbingly bland theatrical version.

2 hours into Snyder's & yeah, Joss' looks awful now.
Snyder's has more relaxed pacing, nuanced moments/scenes, it has an overall more handsome print, & the songs are sublime.
