It’s easier to think of roles where he was not so effective
Dathan in Ten Commandments. Strange casting. Hard not to feel that demille was playing with stereotypes here. It wasn’t tgat Robinson was bad , he is never bad, but the part was conceived strangely.
My favorite is probably Brother Orchid, because he is playing with his tough guy film persona, and his own peace- and beauty - loving , off screen persona.

Double Indemnity for sure. But I haven't seen all that much of his work. I like him a lot in The Cincinnati Kid too.

One of my legit top ten favorite actors. Right on to the fellow that mentioned Larceny, Inc. Key Largo may be my favorite though. It's still a straight villain performance but on the other hand, it kind of works as a dry parody of his earlier roles. I also really like him in Barbary Coast and Scarlet Street.

What's the comedy movie he did? I keep wanting to check it out but forget.
It's a tough call between Keyes and Johnny Rocco, but Rocco had a lot of good lines.

Double Indemnity hi224 if you haven't already done so, definitely check out Scarlet Street. Very good film noir with Robinson.

In addition to the excellent “Brother Orchid,” there is: The Little Giant (1933) The Whole Town’s Talking (1935) A Slight Case Of Murder (1938) Larceny, Inc. (1942) By the time he got into the ‘40s, he really began mixing up the roles he took. No longer “typed” in crime films although he never wrote them off. My favorites are two that have already received multiple votes: Key Largo and Double Indemnity.

Never nominated, but when I watch KEY LARGO, DOUBLE INDEMNITY and THE CINCINATTI KID I feel like I'm watching a winner.
