McCartney (Released April 17, 1970) On 9 April, McCartney released a Q&A package to the British press, in which he explained his reasons for making his solo album and described its overall theme as "Home, Family, Love". Compiled with the help of Apple executives Derek Taylor and Peter Brown, the self-interview also contained questions McCartney imagined he would be asked regarding the possibility of the Beatles splitting up. While stopping short of saying that the band was finished, McCartney stated that he did not know whether his "break with the Beatles" would be temporary or permanent and that it was based on business, personal and creative differences. Paul McCartney "Self-Interview" (4/9/1970) Once Lennon, Harrison and Starr became aware that McCartney intended to release his solo album on 17 April 1970, the date was immediately deemed an issue, due to the existing items on the Apple release schedule – Let It Be and Starr's own solo debut, Sentimental Journey.
On 31 March, Starr went to McCartney's house to tell him personally of the decision to delay the release of McCartney, news to which he reacted badly, dismissing Starr from his home and refusing to cede the date agreed to with [Neil] Aspinall. Stunned at his bandmate's outburst, Starr relayed the situation to Harrison and Lennon, and McCartney's album was reinstated on the release schedule for 17 April.McCartney's bitterness over this episode contributed to him publicly announcing his departure from the Beatles.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Break-up_of_the_BeatlesSAVE FERRIS

Yoko Ono: " The Hole" (2010) www.imaginepeace.com/archives/12249From September 10, 2010: Yoko Ono: “I have so much love because the whole world hated me”.... At the center of Yoko Ono's new installation is a perfectly round bullet hole shot through a large pane of glass that John Lennon's widow says challenges viewers to confront “incredible violence and abuse” in the world today.
Titled “Das Gift” – a play on the words' meaning in English, a present, and German, poison – the exhibition opened in Berlin on Friday. The 77-year-old artist said she hoped it would force viewers to confront violence without losing hope.
“I want all of us to understand what is going on in the world now, which is incredible violence and abuse,” Ono said. "Instead of just putting that reality under the rug and just forget about it, we have to face it."
The centerpiece of the installation is simply called “The Hole,” the oversize bullet hole in the window that Ono said she made with the idea of the violence that takes place daily around the world.
“There are many, many holes in many, many windows in our world. And I was thinking about that,” Ono said.
But it then took on a larger, more personal meaning as a tribute to her late husband, slain outside their New York City home 30 years ago in December.
"When I made it, I thought, ah, I remember," Ono said. www.imaginepeace.com/projects/strawberryfields SAVE FERRIS

“We recorded the song twice. The Beatles were getting really tense with one another. I did the slow version and I wanted it out as a single: as a statement of the Beatles’ position on Vietnam and the Beatles’ position on revolution.
“For years, on the Beatle tours, Epstein had stopped us from saying anything about Vietnam or the war. And he wouldn’t allow questions about it. But on one tour, I said, ‘I am going to answer about the war. We can’t ignore it.’ I absolutely wanted the Beatles to say something.
“The first take of ‘Revolution’ …well, George and Paul were resentful and said it wasn’t fast enough. Now, if you go into details of what a hit record is and isn’t… maybe.
“But the Beatles could have afforded to put out the slow, understandable version of ‘Revolution’ as a single. Whether it was a gold record or a wooden record. But because they were so upset about the Yoko period and the fact that I was again becoming as creative and dominating as I had been in the early days, after lying fallow for a couple of years, it upset the apple cart. I was awake again and they couldn’t stand it.” - John

Cool clip.....kind of odd though, to see a low-key Phil Spector just blending into the background here. Hmmm.....though that could just be that I've seen too much of Phil Spector, as portrayed by Al Pacino.... SAVE FERRIS

All that Beatles merchandise. All that money. And Brian Epstein gave it away. Epstein set up a company, Selteab (Beatles, backwards) and the the Beatles only got 10% of it, and Epstein's corporation, NEMS, got most of that. All the Beatles wigs, dolls, t shirts, buttons, zillions of items. The band never learned about Selteab until after Epstein died. Some say the Beatles might have given away $100,000,000 to $400,000,000. To this day, you can buy Beatles merch sold by Selteab.
McCartney said years later: "He [Epstein] looked to his dad for business advice, and his dad knew how to run a furniture store in Liverpool."

Would the Beatles have become THE BEATLES if they had stuck with Stu Sutcliffe and Pete Best? Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were the heart of the band and could have carried the group to Beatlemania. But, by all accounts, an aardvark could play the bass better than Sutcliffe (Paul used to unplug his bass because he was so lousy). Best was a competent drummer (Starr was better) but had the personality of a empty soda can. So much of Beatlemania was their quick wit with the press. Best had none of it and it would have stood out.
The "Fab Five"? An interesting what if. I do feel sorry for Pete Best. It must have killed him to watch it all and say "that could be me and not that big nosed asshole Starkey. WHY"
That is an iconic photo
