Am I missing out on anything? I've always been fascinated by the opening scene:

Catman belongs to the never-have-seen club.
Don't plan to get out.

Very good war movie, but what makes it great is George C. Scott's performance.
9/10

Excellent script and Scott's simply towering performance, one of the best you'll ever see, make Patton a must.

I’ve not seen it. I think I tried but didn’t feel in the mood for it and shut it off pretty early.

Good movie. Bent history a tad, Patton knew he would get 3rd Army Command in January, 1944, the film makes it look like he never knew until well after D-Day.
My Uncle Paul knew Patton and said Scott did an accurate job, even though Patton was much more profane. He had wished the movie had included the liberation Ohrdruf Concentration Camp. He was with Patton when they toured the camp and he said that the sights turned Patton into a different person. Not the bombastic Blood and Guts but a teary eyed person. He hardly said a wrod the whole time, except "My god" and "Why"?

Definitely worth seeing but I find it rather hokey and hagiographical.
Patton's son was assistant post commander at Fort Knox when Young Bravo was stationed there for a few months before shipping off to glory. Patton the Younger rode around in a jeep with a .45 on his hip. His old man's renowned pearl-handled pistols, which Omar Bradley said made him look like a pimp in a New Orleans bordello, were in a museum on Knox. There was also a Tiger tank, one of the few remanning in the world. Other vehicles had Afrika Korps markings.

I tried watching it last year. I gave up after maybe 25 minutes. I could just tell it was not going to turn out to be something I could get into.
Afterwards I watched the 1978 tv movie "Devil Dog: Hound of Hell" with Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards and relished every minute of it.

It is my father's all-time second favourite film after Saving Private Ryan. I like it a lot, too. Overall, it is just a bit on the reverent side but not a hagiography as it does look at Patton's wrong conduct as well.

George C. Scott gives a legendary performance.
Great script and direction.

George C. Scott is one of the best actors, and he shows it here. He's great in everything.
Good movie. But if I watch it again, it's to see George.
