Along the same lines-- This actor starred in a film bio of a real-life person whose character also turned up briefly in an earlier film. In both films, their character appears in a scene with another actor portraying another real-life person; in the earlier film, the person portrayed in the second film was played by the real-life person's son. Who starred in the second film? If you can unravel the convoluted clue above, this should be fairly easy, I guess. Was this one so complicated that you had to post it twice before even you understood it? Thanks; I fixed it. That's the second time today this happened; either the internet's pokey today or I am, or both.

... either the internet's pokey today or I am, or both. I have an opinion on that, but I will keep it to myself.

If I've deciphered your clues correctly: This actor (Bob Hope) starred in a film bio (The Seven Little Foys) of a real-life person (Eddie Foy) whose character also turned up briefly in an earlier film (Yankee Doodle Dandy). In both films, their character appears in a scene with another actor (James Cagney) portraying another real-life person (George M. Cohan) (in other words, that other actor played the same guy in both films); in the earlier film, the person portrayed in the second film was played by the real-life person's son (Eddie Foy Jr.). Who starred in the second film? (Which brings us back to Hope...I hope)

Thank you, and congratulations for figuring out my confused question-I couldn't figure out a clearer way to put it.
I just couldn't resist asking it since Bob Hope and James Cagney had a wonderul little dance scene together. And I love how Cagney has trouble keeping a straight face with Eddie Foy, Jr. in the earlier film.

I'm wondering whether just the first part would have still pointed to exclusively the same answer: "This actor starred in a film bio of a real-life person whose character also turned up briefly in an earlier film. In both films, their character appears in a scene with another actor portraying another real-life person (in other words, that other actor played the same guy in both films)"
If you had just left it at that, would there have been more than one correct answer, or still just Bob Hope?

Well, it's like this...uh, what?
I was thinking of Bob Hope. If there are other possible answers, that's great, too.
