I recall seeing the trailer for this while in a movie theater watching (what else?) a horror movie; and I thought, meh, another stupid teen being stalked horror film.
Fast forward to now, and I'm watching it on TV . . . and it's actually pretty damned good and entertaining! Love the lead - she's good! It's toward the end. I just hope it has a good payoff.

I agree with you on on those things you just said. It was a very pleasant surprise. I was not familiar with Jessica Rothe who played Tree before I saw Happy Death Day but I was really charmed and impressed with her. The sequel was not as good but still worth watching.. Let us know if you were satisfied with the whole movie.

I really enjoyed it! Jessica Rothe was so enjoyable and cool! Perfect for the roll. It was so not what I thought it would be! That one scene where she walked through the campus nude . . . LOL!!!!! I couldn't stop laughing! And her bits! Really fun.
Was she in the sequel?

I was expecting to hate this when I first watched it. I was surprised how good it was. Like everyone else has said Rothe gave a great performance and I really liked the premise.
The sequel is ok. I don’t think it’s as strong as the first. I’m not really sure what they could do with a 3rd.

Just like everyone else here has been saying, I also wasn't expecting much at all from Happy Death Day, but it turned out to be an enjoyable surprise. Still haven't seen the sequel yet.

One of my favorite movies of 2017! i was surprised by this and enjoyed it.
It was something different for the genre than another ghost movie, another found footage movie, another remake of a classic or another sequel/prequel to a franchise that should die like Saw or Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I love this film! I'm a sucker for Alpha bitch redemption stories to begin with and this is one of the best!

I love this film and enjoyed the sequence and for me it was such a breath of fresh air in both horror/comedies and spim offs /hommages on the masterpiece that is the Groundhog day. Have been following both the director and the lead ever since. (I wasnt a big fan f his PA films). I find his latest movie - Freaky- enjoyable as well.

The director Christopher Landon gave a disappointing update on the third movie while speaking to SlashFilm while promoting his new movie We Have A Ghost: "No movement at all, sadly. There was a tiny moment where I really felt like I had Universal's attention, but they forgot about me. [laughs] I think it's a really tough one for them, and I'm being really blunt and honest in that the first movie was very successful. It made a lot of money. It was well-received. And the sequel was not. The sequel is loved by people who have seen it, but it did not make a lot of money, and it was not a success for them. So it's very hard to motivate them to make a third movie when the last one just didn't perform. Those are the hard economics of the business. So I don't know what it would take. There was talk for a minute of it maybe being a Peacock thing. Maybe. Maybe one day. The beauty of it is that my idea, the whole idea for the third movie, is not dependent on any sort of specific window or timeframe. So I could make it any time, but I mean, as the years draw past, I feel like our chances are dimming." movieweb.com/happy-death-day-3-update/

The director still wants to make a third one:
"It would definitely be Happy Death Day 3. I have that movie in my head, and I know exactly what I want. It’s actually a bigger movie than the previous two films, and that’s part of the issue, ultimately. This third movie needs a bigger budget, but since the second movie didn’t perform as well as the first, it’s a tall order. But I’m still holding out hope that Universal will give me a chance because it would be a really fun conclusion."

He should move on. Make something new with the same lead actress.

He described the sequel as an "epic apocalyptic adventure," going in an entirely unique direction. Read his full quote below: The third movie was going to be an epic apocalyptic adventure with still elements of horror. That was not getting left behind. But yeah, we were going to change gears again and it was going to be bigger. I think that was probably also what held us back a touch because the concept for the third movie is a bigger, much bigger movie.
