I just can’t get behind this. I think about all those tweets he made. I’m not easily offended, but raping little boys was a bit too far. As a parent. And I know it’s a dark humor joke, and I understand he wouldn’t do it (I hope), but anyone who ever found that funny at any point just makes me feel sick to my stomach.

James Gunn’s tweets were pretty much your typical edgelord humor that was all the rage in the 2000s and the early 2010s.

I had a friend who lived in NYC when 9/11 happened and I also have a little boy. So while it may have been “all the rage” it’s not funny for me. The rape jokes are too far. For me. Just because a lot of people do it, doesn’t make it right.

Who didn't make at least one pedophilia joke in the early 2000s right?
He didn't do it once-it was many times.

I know I'm supposed to be chilling with the personal shots, but I can't help but think this has less to do with the tweets themselves and more with his MCU background, as per your intense Whedon hatred.
The Spartans were a bunch of pedophiles. Do you like Snyder/300 any less for glamorizing them?

It looks like a lot of fun. This feels like the vibe the Suicide Squad needs to maintain. Less serious...more goofy...over the top and ridiculous. Im gonna love Tiger Shark, regardless of how different this version is compared to the comics. I saw the term 'wonderfully bonkers' used for this movie and that feels accurate.

This thread really isn’t about the Suicide Squad trailer at all, is it?

I like the way a user on this thread brushed it off as typical edgelord talk for the 21st century I'm curious what drugs he was on when he posted that... Er the user, not Gunn... Well, the both of them actually. Based on these Twitter comments how he secured a Marvel film is anyone's guess and his Guardians films are shit anyway.

Different strokes and all...but Guardians is one of my favorite marvel flicks. I even enjoyed the second one, although not as much.

I have gone on record in the past on the other IMDb board as liking the GotG a lot. But then I found out about these tweets (and it’s a lot, not just oneI haven’t watched it since. I know how it looks, but I’m not being like that. I honestly can’t support someone who makes jokes about people dying in a massive terrorist attack, or AIDS, or raping people while they are asleep etc. I worked at a Child Advocacy Center for 2 years dealing with kids who have been sexually abused and then I worked as a counselor at a prison with pedophiles. It’s not funny.

Jokes about rape, pedophilia, and the Holocaust were pretty common back in the day. That’s not up for debate. South Park did those kinds of jokes all the time.

And none of them were given creative control over multi million dollar movies. Based on those Twitter "jokes" I would never have given him a job.

Although Hollywood is such a cesspool of degenerates and assholes that I feel like you have to be looking the other way on some things to zero in on Gunn. At least he's just trolling, which is more than I can say for someone like Spacey or anyone who was pals with Epstein.

I personally love offensive humor, though there are limits and sometimes Family Guy and American Dad go a bit too far. For me humor makes the horrible aspects of life more tolerable and also can draw attention to stuff. The more offensive the humor, the more cathartic it can be. Speaking of zeroing in on James Gunn, Tom Cruise is worse than James Gunn.

But I think I was just triggered working with kids who had been sexually abused and women who have been raped.

Of course it makes a difference if you have a personal connection to something the joke is about. I do understand that. I do agree that it is a lot different seeing some director tweet these jokes just for the sake of offending people and seeing a cartoon character make the same jokes in the context of an entire show where the show more or less involves every type of humor there is.

You have no way of knowing whether James Gunn is a real pedophile or not you going on your Jessica Fletcher senses isn't going to work in this discussion. His jokes are sick not funny I mean come on a joke about feeling like fucking the little child next to him, seriously? You want to tell me a deal from Netflix for the James Gunn stand up show is on the way to his house for more those types of jokes?
