Not surprising since it deals with an authority figure bravely doing the right thing while everyone in his vicinity warns him against it.

It’s a fantastic flick. You really feel the anger and disappointment for Kane toward the entire town who left him to stand alone in his hour of need. Even his wife was ready to abandon him. I don’t think I’d have forgiven her for that but that’s why Kane is a hero and I’m a schmuck.

Great movie. Makes a great double bill with '3:10 To Yuma' (1957).
