Great WWII fictionalized epic. A bit overlong, yet that was the era. WWII ensemble adventure of sorts like The Dirty Dozen, I do prefer this. It's somewhat fitting that the canons were so iconic, in reality they'd serve quite little purpose - ships could sail nearer to shore, they weren't designed to aim below... & yet they're still badass & feared for drama & tension.
As a kid, I usually always tuned in (tv) for the final climactic sequence, I simply couldn't get through the rest.
