I don't think this infamous film has ever really been talked about on this site or the other IMDB site. What do you all think of it?
I may have watched it once on HBO many years ago out of morbid curiosity just to see how bad it is. I remember it certainly not being good, but watching it beats getting your scrotum laid flat out and smashed with a sledgehammer. Whoever thought this film would be a good idea certainly lost their job fast.
Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review:
From Justin to Kelly (2003) - 1.5 out of 4 stars
"Guzzle sunscreen instead of sitting through this insipid musical vehicle for TV's first American Idol stars, which finds them trying to make a love connection during Miami spring break. No one was expecting Shakespeare, but there's less heft here than in an Archie comic book. Justin and Kelly belt and gyrate through a series of forgettable numbers but generate no chemistry, even in a chaste Frankie-Annette sort of way."

It is one of the most cringe-inducing movies I have ever seen.

Kelly Clarkson did not want to do it and she went in knowing the movie was gonna be trash.

I don't hate FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY just for being a cash-in on the success of AMERICAN IDOL (that would be unfair). I hate it because the lack of real motivation for script writer Kim Fuller resulted in a half-assed and boring script. This is the 1st R&B musical I've seen. The concept was interesting enough for me to want to see it again in another movie with better songs. The only passable tracks here are coincidentally the ones where the lyrics have nothing to do with the scene. I'm referring to WISH UPON A STAR, MADNESS and the 1st part of ANYTIME. The movie ends with a terrible cover of THAT'S THE WAY I LIKE IT. Musical film 101: You can have covers among the original tunes, but not as the final number. Kelly Clarkson admitted that she didn't want to be in the movie and was obligated by contract. If I consider that, and the fact that she isn't a trained actress, her performance is decent. I mean, to this day, she's one of the most charismatic singers. Justin Guarini's performance is weaker than her, because it always feel like he's acting instead of feeling like he is his character. How ironic, since the character was written specifically for him. You know whose performance is really bad? Brian Dietzen's. I am so voting him off! I get why villains are forgiven at the end of incredibly cheesy movies like this, but I'm pretty sure that ALEXA is a sociopath. What the fuck?! 1/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

Vits Nick Kroll agreed with you. He was the guest for the How Did This Get Made? episode which discussed From Justin to Kelly. He called Alexa the most evil character he ever saw in a movie.

Man, looking at the picture now it's hard to believe this is the same woman on The Voice. I remember I HATED Kelly Clarkson, I was so mad she won, I wanted that redheaded woman Nicki to get it (RIP). I did not like her, her music, anything about her, and there was a period of several years I only heard her songs on the radio, never saw her, and at first I thought it was Pink singing them. And then one day I saw a video of her singing, and she'd gained the weight and buzzed the hair off one side of her head, and I couldn't believe it was the same woman...I liked her. And then all these fans of hers, were dissing her because she gained weight, so many fans turned into haters, and I just loved it, not what they were doing, but I loved how she wasn't this skinny little miss perfect anymore, and that's when you found out who were the real fans, and who turned on her when she didn't fit the mold, and that was when I started to love her.
