Cardigans aren't a One Hit Wonder..(5 top 10 singles and 3 Platinum albums) Yeah, they seemed to big quite big during the late 90s, and got played way more often on radio and tv, than several other pop/rock acts of that era. Always been a fan of their Erase and Rewind song/video, but never heard them mentioned as a one hit wonder of the 90s. When I think of one hit wonders, and coming from Scandinavia. These are more what I believe fit under that tag: Meja - All 'Bout The Money (1998) Somehow, this big 1998 hit, has not yet worn out its welcome, as I remember I loved the summer vacation that year, and this song always seemed to show up, wherever I went. However, it has rarely been played that often, as other, and way worse big one hit wonders of the same year. Meja, I believe managed to find bit of success with feautiring on a Ricky Martin hit, called Private Emotions, but after that, I really cannot remember if she ever made another hit. In the same period, the swedish artists, Emilia - Big Girl In a Big World (or something like that), along with Eagle Eye Cherry (brother of Neneh Cherry, or so I remember) both scored big hits, but the Emilia hit, that was for me, one of the absolute most annoying one hit wonder singles of the late 90s. Impossible to get out your heard, once it got stuck. Then, those damn swedes, hit off with something way worse, in Doctor Bombay and his Calcutta (Taxi Driver) euro-dance hit. Which was also everywhere for a while, and while he managed to actually release a few similar sounding singles, none matched the success of Calcutta, thankfully. However, he tried to hit back, a few years later on, as some Scottish figure, dressed in kilt and yeah, it was not a good idea. Another classic case of 90s one hit wonders, has to be this one: Babylon Zoo - Spaceman (1996)I remember some critics and newspapers, went all crazy, labeling the band or artist, as some kind of new Kurt Cobain rockstar in the making, and also having the Levi Strauss jeans commercial going strong at the same time, Spaceman really seemed to be everywhere. But then after a while, the record just seemed to fade away, and so did the hit single.

True, but I used the standards (UK and US charts) to look at them..Hell, if we took the Scandinavian charts into account, they have tons of hits and sales..

Most times the subject is raised it's from a US point of view. Which throws up contradictions like C'Mon Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners being called a one hit wonder when in the UK the single was a comeback! Cheap Trick would never be called a one hit wonder in the US but they are in the UK - only one single ever entered the Top 50 and the highest it got was 29!

Might be pushing it with this one. Originally released in 1988, re-released in 1990 when it became a "hit" in the UK. To the best of my knowledge they didn't have any others. Either way amazing song:

Yeah, I remember a while back, either VH1-Classic or one of the MTV channels, had a few of these One Hit Wonders from the 70s and 80s, going on through most of the night, and I "accidentally" ended up, watching a bit of that, when I did not get any sleep. And all of a sudden, ABBA and a-ha (two of the best selling and most famous scandinavian and european acts of the 70s and 80s, and where surely ABBA has to be among the worlds most selling artists, of all time), was included in the line-up. And I guess neither of the bands managed to top off Dancing Queen or Take On Me, over in the states. But they have sold ridiculously many records and singles, all over the world for decades, and I guess in some countries, singles like Take On Me and Dancing Queen is not even close to being their most famous or best selling releases.

They must have been talking about bands that only had one number one surely. ABBA did have a few other Top 10 Hits in the US! (I just looked at ABBAs discography and was surprised to see they had more singles/hits in the UK than Sweden!). A-ha were far from being a OHW in the UK Then again I also saw an MTV show where they said Crowded House were One Hit Wonders despite having 2 top 10 hits in the US. Even so, not a OHW in many countries outside US Everything But The Girl are mentioned in this thread - a band with 12 Top 40, singles including 4 Top 10, and 11 Top 40, LPs including 4 Top 10, in the UK

Inspired by this thread/posts, and I thought it would be fun, or maybe more in a nostalgic manner, to see if I could dig up a few classic 90s One Hit Wonders, and sure, some I guess might have went on to deliver a few more, but at least from my point of view, these are songs which still is played on norwegian radio, where as most of the artists/bands other releases, never do. Also, a few might differ in when they were released, as I tried to sort them out, from the year of release or to when they dominated the airwaves and music video channels in my country. Some have been re-released several times, but I went for the ones, I know, and knew when hit off big. Anyway, here is here is my first attempt, on doing a 90s nostalgia One Hit Wonder Playlist.

Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground Truly Madly Deeply - Savage Garden Savage Garden? Weren't these guys huge around 1997-1999? I remember that the girls in my class, were all over them, but I kind of liked their more guitar driven tracks, such as To the Moon a Back (1997), but prefered the one with the longer outro, rather than the updated and shorter radio edit cut. I believe they broke up, or took some time off a few years later, and where the frontman/vocalist had a few hits on his own, around the early 00s. But again, I never would have thought of them as one hit wonders, at least in my country, they seemed to be on quite a roll, with one hit, after another, for a 2-3 year period of time.
