Are these supposed to be ranked "in order"? I know something like this is highly subjective, but nobody with eyes would think James Stewart or Frank Sinatra was more handsome than Tyrone Power. But Sean Connery is obviously overlooked.

Well, I don't know from "handsome" but I do know from screen presence and drawing my interest to acting. In that regard, I tend more to judge by that elusive "star power" and a ruggedness, a face that expresses experience. So, I really prefer to watch male actors such as John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, and Robert Ryan - none of whom made this list.
P.S. I had to flinch a few times to find that actors I grew up with like James Garner and Steve McQueen are in a list of men from "old Hollywood." Ouch.

Two glaring omissions, IMO-Robert Mitchum and John Hodiak.

Jeff that was fun! Broadly happy - I got 2 of the top 3 right Brando & Newman - thought Monty would crack top 3 but would not mount serious argument against Peck Particular standouts for me of the obvious choices were Larry, Ty, Cooper, Fonda (had forgotten how handsome he was)Kelly & Heston). Great to see Tab too - it's not about acting! Of the less obvious choices Terence Hill, James Edwards, Farley & Franco were especially pleasing. Only about 10 NAY votes chez timshel Chaplin, Clint, Garner, Burton all handsome but not top 50. I have a major Cary allergy (where you all see suave, urbane and sophisticated I see smug, fey and oily). Sinatra - Come on !!!! (although I gather he was better looking below the belt!) The only real for me was Curtis although if I missed Cagney add him. Alain Delon feels like a major omission - HOW TO DRESS LIKE ALAIN DELON and Sharif was considered quite the hottie back in the day see post below for others Only criticism is it focuses mostly on A list front rank stars (and assume 1970 cut off) My off the top of my head nominations to fill in the 10 I want to demote would include (not in order aside from Sterling at top) Sterling Hayden Jeff Chandler Jeffey Hunter Guy Madison He's my GuyLaurence Harvey - must be in the running if he can be blase enough to host swingers parties with the likes of Julie Christie Jean Sorel Rick Jason top 10 material for me - check out his "Gas Station Casanova" , the love object caught between rival sisters Linda Darnell & Faith Domergue in THIS IS MY LOVE 1954 Stuart Heisler Plus Dan Duryea as a bitter cripple! Christopher Jones Hotter than Jimmy?Dana Andrews can ogle my portrait any night Fabio Testi

Serious omissions Delon plus Some more left field suggestions: Turhan Bey who only passed a few years back Nils Asther Joe D'Allesandro (yes he's now "old hollywood" too ) My Dad concurred Delon was robbed and added Redford (did I miss him? he was expected although I'd demote him) Boyer , Beatty and Holden And if you think todays boys don't measure up I offer you the Belgian waffle himself and New Brando Mr Cosmo Jarvis

Second opinion most handsome classic actors top 26 Unranked aside from Cary in top spot Redford, Connery, Holden & Dana make the cut other ones included here not on yours are Ladd , Mccrea, Jourdan, Rod Taylor (good call I thought) and Charles Farrell but all the ones that made your list interesting are gone no surprises at all (except Farrell, which wasnt a good one)- No WTF Robert Conrad moment!.... and I think it monoracial... All the birds love him!

I was going to add Rod Taylor but the excellent taste of others have beaten me to it. While on Aussies, Errol at 28? Surely an easy top 10. I think star power / charisma has influenced the list. Just on looks no way Sinatra, Gable or even McQueen gets on.

I always think of a pickled onion when I see his head & face... but I get the charisma element - if you were looking at Tab Hunter and Edward G Robinson sharing the screen who would you be watching?. Mr Cool graced some pretty good movies though. Surprised your avatar not on list... he was highly rated on this barometer for a long time ... so much so it sort of became an albatross.

They had my favorite in early, Burt Lancaster. Makes my knees weak!
Also Clint Eastwood. Simply gorgeous in The Beguiled.
I didn't watch the whole thing, but I always thought Christopher Plummer was so handsome in The Sound Of Music, and stayed very handsome into old age.

I read Steve Reeves was going to make a movie with Debra Paget. They would have been some couple.
