Watching on a small Sony portable player 8 inch screen. Also, still figuring it out so stuck with English instead of Japanese with subtitles.
Released in Japan 1/21/2017 by A1 Pictures.
Funimation license in the US.
This takes place aboard a ship, the Campania, so we get all the locked room mystery. Of course we get the title favs to put in an appearance such as Ciel's fiancee Lizzie & her family. Basically an excuse to play sink the Titanic again. Victorian era.
Earl Ciel Phantomhive (13 yrs old) is asked to investigate the suspicious Aurora Society which has been rumored to be re-animating the dead so of course his butler Sebastian Michaelis accompanies his master. Unfortunately, the reanimated have the usual taste for living flesh. Dr Stoker is the guy reanimating bodies, yet he seems as shocked as everyone else when dear dead Margaret used for the onboard demonstration chomps mommy upon returning to life. When Sebastian's blades fail to bring her down, Grim Reaper Knox has the solution of destroying the head. Of course he has to fight Sebastian which gives Ciel & Lizzie time to get in danger in the cargo area as it is filled with coffins. Snake & his snakes are there to help & they run into the mad scientist Dr Stoker who informs them the ship has 2 cargo holds with the other one holding 10 times the number of coffins.
So many, many zombie hoardes.
The animation looks beautiful.
We get the preposterous secret password to embarrass Ciel.
This is border shonen ai meaning lots of pretty boys, but nothing actually happens.
Probably better if one is familiar with the property, but they manage to creatively re-tell the origin of how Ciel obtained one hell of a butler so the biggest issue would be the Grim Reapers since a character we've already met in the series is revealed to be a Reaper & the being pulling the strings in the reanimation business.
The zombie apocalypse fans would likely be disappointed as the focus is Ciel & Sebastian, but fans of the genre will likely enjoy.
