Joe Girardi doesn’t know what to do with a bullpen that doesn’t have Mariano Rivera on the back end of it.

Girardi and Dommy's recent moves are brilliant in my opinion
Sending Herrera down - Odubel would have gotten roasted by the fans. You can say they caved to public pressure by sending him down. I say they're playing it smart. When Haseley / Quinn falter - he's going to get called up and there won't be as much as a spotlight on him
Sending Kingery down. Again. Brilliant. Kid is owed like $19 million more and many are up in arms calling the kid a bust. I loved Gabe Kapler but it's my only complaint about him. They should have just left him alone at 2B - instead they tried to turn the kid into a Swiss Army Knife and he played like every position under the sun (he was actually put in as an emergency arm one game - I kid you not).
Regarding Kingery - they also changed his swing with this nonsense Launch Angle/Home Run Trajectory nonsense. He needs to be playing everyday to fix/work on his swing which he will be doing down in the minors
Also regarding Kingery - see Herrera. The fans would not have been kind to him - especially if he goes for an O'fer the first game striking out 3 times. Best to send him down and get his head right. He'll be back up at some point whether it be if somebody is underperforming or to fill in for an injury - kid can play numerous position - CF, 2B, SS, 3B - Swiss Army Knife....
Neris? Well Neris has been our guy. Give him the ball and roll with him - and then if he falters - you bring in the new guy - Bradley. Imagine bringing Bradley in off the bat and he bombs - then you've got to go back to Neris who you've kind of demoted out of his closer role. This is a win win. If Neris thrives - you stick with it. If he falters - in comes Bradley
I'm lovin' these moves folks and cannot wait until tomorrow
We're going to surprise a lot of people

We're going to surprise a lot of people Well just regarding Odubel, he was hitting like .220 or something. It didn’t take the strategic genius of Jim Leyland to send him down. I myself can find plenty of .220 hitters that don’t commit domestic violence.

We're going to surprise a lot of people They sent Herrera down because he has been awful, they could give two shits about what the public thinks, otherwise he wouldn't have even been there in the first place. Kingery got ruined by the switching positions, I agree, but the launch angle stuff had no effect on him. That's something that has always been around and players have always analyzed the angle of their own swings (the good ones, anyway), but Fox Sports were the first to incorporate it into the broadcasts thinking the fans cared or it meant anything, and now it's everywhere in games. Tony Gwynn would famously take note if he were popping up too much and would adjust his "launch angle" accordingly. Players have done it since the inception of the sport, it's just now a bit more codified. But that's not why Kingery is struggling. Neris I totally agree with you. He has more closing experience than both of those guys combined and you're right; it's easier to demote him from the role, rather than to promote him to the role.

Dombrowski when asked if he would have any reservations about bringing up Odubel -
“No,” he said. “If he was performing.”
“So, for us, it was better that he go out and play on an everyday basis and see what happens over the next time period. We like him, he did well but that was really the final determining factor – go out and get more at bats so we can hopefully see more consistency of the good swings.”
“He’s been great. He’s been on time, he’s worked hard. He’s in a position where you can tell there’s a part of him that is very much sorry for what he did and he continues to echo that.

What is your fascination with this guy? He would infuriate with some of his boneheaded lazy plays
But we've all seen the potential
He was an All-Star back in 2016
2015- .297 2016- .286 2014- .281
I don't dislike Haseley. I actually like the kid and will be rooting for him. I don't hate Quinn - he brings value with speed. He's always injured and brings little else but speed after all we heard were the masses rave about him in the minors for years upon years upon years. Haseley just appears to be a steady player - doesn't bring speed or power, doesn't hit for average - I get he's young - just an average Steady Joe. Doesn't really excel in one particular area
I see neither as an everyday starting CF at this point. Hope I'm wrong with Haseley - he only has 300 ABs or so. Even Girardi said it yesterday that we're going to be playing it by ear day by day with the two of them
That is not what I want hear as a fan that one of our positions is going to be platooned
If you're going that route to start the season you should have upgraded the position during the offseason. They failed to do this.
Can you imagine if the Eagles came out and stated - well we're going to play it by ear and go with this QB the first week and then play it by ear. That is a recipe for failure to me. Or if the Sixers started a different PG every game.
Pick an everyday starting CF - to me the answer was Odubel as he's done it before with success.
I was hoping they were going to sign Jackie Bradley Jr. but they failed to do this

Maybe Mickey Moniak and Scott Kingery will tear it up in the minors and one will get called up
We have like 5 'Average Joe' / 'Below Average Joe' CFs
Nice way to start a season with a position unsolidified

That being said - with my opinion the position should have been upgraded during the offseason with Jackie Bradley Jr. I cannot be upset with the team and upper management for everything they did during the offseason Tremendous offseason - spent a lot of money Just disappointed nobody from our 'Average Joe Squad' of CFs has managed to distance himself from the pack and win the everyday starting CF job Let's play ball!

Our opening day lineup has just been released
And just as I suspected - the weak link is pretty much always in the 8 hole
1 Andrew McCutchen (R), LF
2 Rhys Hoskins (R), 1B
3 Bryce Harper (L), RF
4 J.T. Realmuto (R), C
5 Alec Bohm (R), 3B
6 Didi Gregorius (L), SS
7 Jean Segura (R), 2B
8 Adam Haseley (L), CF
9 Aaron Nola (R), P
Hoskins in the 2 hole is gutsy/risky right now - he goes down swinging his 1st plate appearance I'm expecting some rumblings in the crowd. I need to see something early from him this year. My patience has worn thin.
