Anya Taylor-Joy's acting was terrific. It can't be easy making playing chess entertaining. I thought she was very attractive with her big brown eyes and red hair. No, she didn't have the best body. But she looked good when she wore nice clothes that fit well. And even as a frumpy orphan, her pretty face and compelling personality and style were riveting.
Many of the bad reviews are complaining chess is boring. That is not really what this show is about. It's about the main character's interesting but challenging life.
Chess was just something she was naturally good at. She was a savant. It was enjoyable for her, she was good at it, it gave her something to do, and a way to achieve success and fame.
Although the show was entertaining, I think the moral of the story was, although chess gave her something to do and be good at, family and friends is what she really wanted and needed.
After playing chess gave her success, fame and money, she buried herself in drugs and alcohol because she was troubled and lonely. Her biological mother tried to kill her. Her adopted mother died. Her adopted father never liked her. She cut off all her friends and acquaintances. And she never really appreciated the janitor until it was too late.
Until she worked out the death of her mother and realized people still cared about her, she wasn't able to be the best she could be.
They never got into what the problem was with the adopted family. Yes, the mother was sickly and abused drugs and alcohol. But she was portrayed as a much better person than the father, who just seemed to be a miserable, untrustworthy, selfish baby.
Did you see it?
What did you think?

10/10
But mentioning her body was completely irrelevant. The movie had nothing to do with her body.

10/10 But mentioning her body was completely irrelevant. The movie had nothing to do with her body. As a guy, it's relevant to me.

People are entertained by attractive people. Part of her appeal was she was an attractive person --- both tangibly and intangibly. And many people notice the physical attractiveness of a person. I'm not talking about T & A. I'm talking about arms, shoulders, legs, hips, back, waist, etc. It kills me that women spend so much time, energy and money on their hair, face and clothes. But they are too lazy (or stupid) to exercise. A little exercise goes a long way towards making one's body attractive.

She looked better dancing at home during her meltdown. Than she did swimming in Mexico City.

However, that has nothing to do with the production itself, so it was an irrelevant point in your post. It kills me that women spend so much time, energy and money on their hair, face and clothes. But they are too lazy (or stupid) to exercise. A little exercise goes a long way towards making one's body attractive. Oh, you're that kind of person? Then forget what I said above. There's no point.

There's no point. 1) People are entertained by attractive people. A TV series with attractive people will be more popular than a TV series with unattractive people. Or people with unattractive qualities. 2) I'm not sure what your comment is supposed to mean. Everyone with a body has a responsibility to take care of it. And if a woman cares about her appearance, why would she ignore her body?

Everyone with a body has a responsibility to take care of it. And if a woman cares about her appearance, why would she ignore her body? Because those are 2 different topics and, even if you don't mean to, you come off as a misogynist when you say things like that.

I have the right to my opinion and observations. 2) That sounds misandrist. Men look at women. Men observe women. Men notice women. Both their stong and weak points. I never said she was ugly. I never said I hated her. Your are confusing critical observation with hate.

I'm just telling people what I liked, didn't like and noticed about the movie. I have the right to my opinion and observations. Of course it's your right. No one has told you to edit or delete your post. We're giving you constructive criticism because, when you write things like that, people don't take your opinion and observations seriously. Also, as I told the other guy, it's not a movie. You know I'm a man too, right? I never said she was ugly. I never said I hated her. Your are confusing critical observation with hate. I'm not referring to her. You insulted other women.

But I disagree. It has everything to do with the review of the show. Shows with attractive characters are more popular. And vice versa. That actress was chosen for many reasons. One probably was because they thought she would make the show popular. 2) Both men and women can make mysogenistic and misandrinistic (misandrist) statements. 3) Most of the men I know are interested in other men's opinions of women. And so are many women. Of course some people are gonna be offended by everything. "You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time. But you can't please all people all of the time."

You keep saying that, but you still haven't explained what that has to do with the actual quality. Most of the men I know are interested in other men's opinions of women. And so are many women. Of course some people are gonna be offended by everything. You literally said "lazy" and "stupid." How is that not supposed to be an insult?

But no more insulting than saying this movie or show was bad, the writing was bad, the acting was bad, etc.
