It's a shame, that we never got to see more of John Candy, doing more dramatic or much different roles. But I guess, too often he was typecasted, as the big and charming loveable fella/sidekick, and something which is of course a big part of why so many (myself included) love John Candy. But it must have been frustrating for him, to keep on getting underwhelming scripts/parts, when he put in such fine dramatic parts as Del Griffith or his short, but memorable role in JFK (1991), one which he supposedly put a lot of effort into, but only to end up back in the cozy and safe comedy/slapstick roles.
Would have loved to see him do a few real nasty, slimy and sleazy villains, maybe some crime-thriller/action stuff, but I guess the closest one came, were this fine small part:
