I saw his presser after their loss in the tourney and I thought, "He looks old." It was time, he had a hell of a career.

He never seemed 'UNC' to me even though he was there for almost 20 years

"Huckleberry Hound" hangs them up.
Who will replace him? UNC always stays "in house" for the HC. Every head coach has either been a player or assistant since Frank McGuire left in 1961. The hottest name now is Chris Beard of Texas Tech but he has no Tar heel Connection. So I'd bet either UNC assistant Hubert Davis or Vanderbilt assistant Jerry Stackhouse. Stack hasn't set the world on fire at Vandy.

He's only 63
63 is the new 43 apparently
Look at Larry Brown - he's 80

I don't think he'd make a very good coach, but-- I'm trying to think of examples of the greatest/one of the greatest players in a program's history coming back to be HC. Chris Mullin at St. John's, Patrick Ewing at Georgetown, Penny Hardaway at Memphis. Past those three, I can't think of another. Bill Walton never coached UCLA, Ralph Sampson never coached Virginia, Sean Elliott never coached Arizona, Bob Lanier never coached St, Bonaventure, Mark Price never coached Georgia Tech. I might have missed one or two, but it's very rare.

Beard is off to Texas according to reports.... Yeah, that was always going to happen. His was a name that was big on he rumor mill for a hour or two. Carolina is one of the greatest coaching jobs in basketball. A lot of big names being tossed around, Mark Few, Scott Drew, Jay Wright (yeah, Jay Wright), Billy Donovan, Brad Stevens, Porter Moser. Hell, if they wanted the job, probably every coach in the US except Mike Krzyzewski (wouldn't that be a hoot?). But it looks like one of three. Current assistant Steve Robinson. Roy's #2 at both Kansas and UNC. But he was HC at Florida State for five years and it didn't go well. The aforementioned Hubert Davis. UNC Greensboro HC Wes Miller. Former Tar Heel walk on has turned Greensboro into a mid major power. lat 5 years, Miller's record in the last five years, 125-42. He was a candidate for the Indiana job. It will come down to Davis or Miller. And the fans hope that there's never comparisons to Matt Doherty

I can't see Jay leaving 'Nova for UNC
I'm going to go out on a limb and say he retires here
He's taken his name out of the running for the Sixers job numerous times over the years.
Sixers > UNC (and that's no disrespect to UNC - I used to wear Tar Heel Blue as a kid)

Me neither. Or Mark Few, Tony Bennett, Brad Stevens (he turned down home state Indiana). Just saying that if any coach in the country wanted the job, they could probably have it.
Except Krzyzewski
