The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly is immensely entertaining. Eli Wallace also has more fun with his role than most actors ever could. The ecstasy of gold sequence is straight up intoxicating. That said, I see Once Upon a Time in the West as his masterpiece. Using a description Roger Ebert once applied to another movie, it’s “light on story but heavy on storytelling”.

My vote goes to Once Upon A Time In The West. I agree, that is Leone's masterpiece.
I also love the ectasy of gold sequence, especially the music that goes with it.

I'd go with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - amazing cinematography, story telling , humor, and poignancy. As for Once upon a Time in the West, I loved the beginning and end - great bookends of vengeance. But the middle is long and often uninteresting, despite Claudia Cardinale's presence.

Good, the Bad and the Ugly, OUATITW is great, but it drags a bit in the middle. I'd actually put Once upon a Time in America 2nd

I'd actually agree with a few options here...and theres three that normally rotate around when i think about this one.
For a few dollars more, Good Bad and Ugly, Once Upon a time in the west.
Depending on mood im inclined to choose any of these 3.

I like the one which was made with your mother

I have to go with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. I admit that Once Upon a Time in the West is good but I didn't relate to the characters as much.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, with Once Upon a Time in the West as a close second.

My personal favorite is Once Upon A Time in the West.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly is a close second.

The new 'Discovering Film' series documentary special screening on Sky Arts is the team of critics' selection of the top 25 westerns. I've seen episodes on other genres, ranging the gamut from romantic comedy to horror (they make a good compliment to Mark Kermode's genre specials on the BBC).
Anyway, I was shocked to see 'Once Upon A Time In The West' take the number 1 slot. It's my favourite Sergio Leone film so I wasn't unhappy.

While rewatching The Good the Bad and the Ugly last week, I wondered if the scene with the two armies battling senselessly for the bridge was inspired by The Bridge on the River Kwai. In both films we see characters in the water setting charges on support beams, and there is "madness" in both scenes. I also wonder if the Do Long bridge scene in Apocalypse Now was inspired by one of both of these scenes.

I haven't seen Once Upon a Time in America or The Colossus of Rhodes, but my pick as of now would be The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
I love all of the others too. TGTBATU is slightly better than all of them, though.

Once Upon A Time in America. It's just perfection.

I go back and forth between Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The latter is more purely entertaining, but West is richer is terms of story and character.
