I’ve seen very few of these. I own Spartacus but haven’t watched it yet.
Any particular movies you’d suggest looking into?

As to not be repetitive.
“300” “300: Rise of an Empire” “Clash of the Titans” “Immortals” “Spartacus” (Starz Show. Season 1)
I’ll add “Braveheart” though, it’s a Medieval film. But it’s a sword movie for sure.
Watch “300” just for the awesome lines. “Give them nothing, but take from them... everything.”

Alexander (Final Cut or Ultimate Cut) Troy Gladiator Risen Rome (HBO series) Cleopatra
The Egyptian Quo Vadis The Robe Demetrius and the Gladiators Ulysses (another good Kirk Douglas role) Hannibal (Victor Mature) The Silver Chalice (Paul Newman disowned it but it’s worth a watch for Jack Palance alone)
If you can put up with dubbed dialogue and cheap production budgets, a lot of the old Italian Peplum films are entertaining. Some are actually really well done.
Fury of Achilles (this is actually one of the better portrayals of Achilles) Colossus of Rhodes (Sergio Leones first directorial role) Hercules (Steve Reeves) Hercules Unchained Giant of Marathon The Slave Lion of Thebes There are a ton more, if you have prime they are a rabbit hole of fun, most are in bad shape visually but if you get into them I think the Italians kept cranking them out until they switched to spaghetti westerns.

Depends on your definition. Sword and sandal aka the peplum can be historical epics like those mentioned. If you include sword and sorcery
Some I like
Jason the Argonauts Barabbas Hercules 1958 Perseus the Invincible Hercules in the Haunted World The Giants of Thessaly (another Jason story) The Avenger 1962 (a version of the Aenied) Amazons of Rome 1961 - Louis Jourdan is not a convincing barbarian The Lion of Thebes 1964 - Helen of Troy story Ursus in the Valley of Lions The Vengeance of Hercules aka Goliath and the Dragon-the Italian version is more serious Hercules, Samson, and Ulysses 1963 Coriolanus - Hero without a Country 1964 Gordon Scott's best role? It's a serious Roman history drama. Brennus Enemy of Rome War of the Zombies -- a weird supernatural sword and sandal movie Samson and the Mighty Challenge 1964 - a comedy The Mongols 1961 --Jack Palance Sins of Rome 1953--the basis for the 1960 Spartacus movie Goliath vs the Vampires Hercules Against the Moon Men The Invincible Gladiator --basically the Guns of Navarone set in ancient Rome
Teodora-Slave Empress 1954 Slave Queen of Babylon 1963 The Amazons 1973 Yor the Hunter From the Future The Beastmaster Hundra 1983

This would be easy to answer for obscure movies, especially 15 years ago. I have bought movies in the past that I haven't seen, because it was the only way to watch them. If a movie wasn't available at the video store, then buying it was one of the few ways to watch it.

Very nice list, I’ve seen most of these, lots of fun Italian production. Thanks. I was glad to see some of the obscure ones on yours like the Lion of Thebes.
I made an error--it's the Amazons 1973 not 1963. Pretty late for an Italian sword and sandal, but it is more of a drama-romantic comedy than action film. Luciana Paluzzi has a particularly memorable role in it yet she is not even listed in the main cast.

Ben-Hur Gladiator (2000) Spartacus Troy (2004) I own Ben-Hur as well (got it as a Christmas gift a couple years ago). Haven't watched it, though. Like Spartacus, it's super long and I hate splitting movies up into multiple sittings so I'm fine waiting until I have a day to kill. Looking forward to it. Troy is one of those I watched in a classroom way back in some mythology class. Don't remember much, but I think I liked it. Due for a rewatch.

I don't think it's a good movie as much as an interesting experiment/experience. It's entertaining. I've heard the second is still worth watching, so I'll check that out. I enjoy both Clash of the Titans movies. Love the one from the 80s; mostly enjoy the newer one. I'll have to check out the others, too.

Awesome recommendations, thanks! I'm more interested in the older ones anyway, so this is good. Risen was a surprisingly good one that I actually saw in theaters against my will and ended up being glad I went. I have Amazon Prime - many of them are on there? If you happen to have any specific titles on there you'd recommend first I'd love to see them.

I should have been more specific that I was interested in the older era of these movies more than the newer (but I'll take whatever I can get).
