Since they were mentioned in another thread earlier I fell into an ABBA rabbit hole on YouTube. I've always apprciated them but sometimes I need reminding how great they are. I don't care how "uncool" that opinion may be. As much as I love my hard garage rock, psychobilly shenanigans, feedback and jangles, there is always room for some Scandinavian pop mastery.
A bit hooked on this classic. Uncharacteristic for the band as Agnetha and Frida provide the backing vocals only, and it has some mean guitar.

They're slightly better than sabbath. So they're good.

I wouldn't consider myself a fan but I enjoy some of their songs. I also appreciate their talent.
I knew a girl when I was young whose favourite bands were ABBA, the Osmonds, the B-52s and the Carpenters. She introduced me to some of ABBA's more obscure recordings. 'The Visitors' (1981) is an interesting album. She also played me the album 'Crazy Horses' (1972) by the Osmonds which she was crazy about.

One of those bands that even if you hate, it's impossible to deny their genius.

As a kid, their later 70s disco-soul scandinavian pop albums (Voulez-Vous and Super Trouper) were huge favorites of mine, along with Michael Jackson Thriller and The Alan Parsons Project, Turn of a Friendly Card. Those records, just had something very special about them. Lots of great hooks and melodies, stunning production, classic hits but also so many incredible album cuts as well, and were so much fun to listen to. I went through Voulez-Vous and Super Trouper last year, and I thought they still had held up, very well, even though I believe Super Trouper is the slightly stronger album. What amazes me, is how many truly great songs they wrote, and the kind that I think are superior to their biggest or most played hits, and it is a shame that very few of those, gets the same attention on radio or tv, but then again, I guess some might be in for a pleasant surprise, either discovering or re-discovering all those hidden gems. I remember watching an ABBA documentary, and some of the reviews and critics, were just ruthless and mean spirited, trying to dismiss ABBA as some kind of lucky amateurs, only selling records because they had hot female ladies, fronting the band, and making "simple" and "naive" children music, and that they would soon be forgotten, the moment the group would break up. I guess that went "well". It was kind of sweet, to watch how a few of the more "angry" and "rebelious" rock stars, would admit that they were secret fans and huge admirers of ABBA, but I guess they did not want to share that love, back in the 70s and 80s, as it might have hurt their bad rock star "reputation" or something. Anyway, a few ABBA songs, that I still love very much, and I have yet to hear The Visitors and a few others, but I will one day, try to pick those up as well. There is just somethig iressistible, seductive, sweet and catchy about all these songs, while some others may have a certain sadness to them, which I guess is not hard to understand, since some of their best moments in the studio, most likely arrived as both couples were splitting up or getting through a tough divorce: However, of all the ABBA songs I have heard, none gives me the chills, more than when hearing the stunning title cut of their 1976 album Arrival:

Yay, but I only like a few tracks. I don't think I'd enjoy listening to an entire album, unless the artwork had a lot of images of the girls.

Yay, but I only like a few tracks. I don't think I'd enjoy listening to an entire album, unless the artwork had a lot of images of the girls. As a kid, I always used to prefer Anni-Frid, instead of Agnetha. Not saying she is not as beautiful, but I guess I realized very early on, that I just seemed to have thing for brunettes, more than blondes. And looking back, at all the girls I have been in love with, most of them have been brunettes, and very few blondes. Anyway, yeah, the ABBA girls, Anni-Frid and Agnetha, sure were some lookers, but damn they could sing as well, and I remember hearing some outtakes from a documentary, where they were just chewing bubblegum, and looked so random in studio, but once they got in front of the microphone, they never held anything back, and had such a great warmth and seductive sweet range or tone, in their voices, which also suited each other so well. Agnetha more sweet and sexy, while Frida always were a bit more seductive and mature, or so I feel. I remember also that Agnetha were the one, which most people would think might go on to become a successful solo artist, due to being the one, I guess most people seemed to think of, when hearing ABBA. But from a few documentaries, interviews I have seen, she often seemed very shy and different to her huge sex appeal/pop star image, and probably felt more and more tired of the whole popstar lifestyle, and wanted to be more among with her loved ones, family and I guess also having some creepy stalker, being onto her, so close, might have something to do with her being a bit of a "mystery", in that she fell of the "radar", for so long. Anyway, speaking of Agnetha and Ann-Frid. Here is a few classic images or gifs: I visited the ABBA museum, back in summer of 2017, and I remembered there were some lifelike dolls of the band, and were a few of the male crowds, got a bit too "touchy" towards Agnetha and Ann-Frid, and I would not be surprised if someone has or might try to steal one of those dolls.
