Not doing a poll and not including every one but a few, for your consideration...
Jalen Suggs, 2021. In OT, game tied 90-90
Kris Jenkins, 2016, game tied 74-74
Mario Chalmers, Memphis up 63-60
Christian Laettner, 1992, Duke losing 102-103
Lorenzo Charles, 1983. Game tied 52-52
There were a ton of other, Rip Hamilton, Bryce Drew, Paul Jesperson (half court in 2016). Some pluses and minuses for every one. Zo Charles was just a simple dunk, Houston was napping (Terry Gannon was wide open too). Laettner's was due to a heinous decision on Rick Pitino's part, not defending the inbound. Jenkins' was nearly automatic, once he got the ball, you kind of knew it was over. Chalmers' didn't end the game. Suggs, can't see many minuses, other than it's a situation you see 10,000 in a season and 9,999 times the ball doesn't go in.
I'd either say Laettner or Suggs. Laettner's meant more because Duke was losing. But, once Grant Hill makes the pass, you knew he was going to drain the shot. Suggs was a shocker, I was thinking "Yeah, another OT, Timme's in foul trouble will that make a...HOLY SHIT, HE FUCKING MADE IT".

If he misses, the game goes to OT. Any shot where the guy had to make it or the game was over is a tougher shot.

This won the National Championship
The Houston one that won the National Championship was like a half court airball caught by a teammate and putback right under the basketball.

If Laettner misses, they lose. If Chalmers misses, they lose. If Jenkins misses, they go to OT. These are all great clutch shots, but when you're separating the best from the best, you have to start splitting hairs. The stakes were highest for the guys whose shots kept them from losing. Jenkins shot won them the title, but the worst that happens is they go to OT. He had nothing to lose with the ball in his hands.

If he misses, the season doesn't end. Laettner and Chalmers miss and the season is over for their team. Chalmers shot was in the title game i.e. 'Greatest Game, Greatest Stage, Greatest Microscope on a team.' And he had to create that shot out of a busted play with a defender in his face; as opposed to Jenkins getting a wide open look in transition. Jenkins shot won a title, it was a great clutch shot. The Laettner and Chalmers shots were better. I've never been a fan of the NC State shot because that was a fluke born of total chaos.

longest game winning shot? I remember watching that game. I can't believe how many years it's been since some of this stuff happened.

Would you argue the greatest FG kick would come in a Super Bowl or in a playoff game?
How about the greatest goal scored? Stanley Cup Game 7 or Round 1 of the playoffs?
How about greatest Home Run - game 7 of a World Series or the the ALDS/NLDS
Greatest 3 pointer ever made - NBA Finals Game 7 or Round 1 of the playoffs between a 4 and 5 seed?

I would argue the context of the circumstances, as I am now. (And for the record, the greatest FG kick was in a playoff game, not the Super Bowl. Vinatieri into the teeth of a blizzard to TIE the game in the divisional round against the Raiders.) Generally speaking, the play the team/player has to make to keep their chances alive as opposed to win-or-go-to-OT is the more impressive play. Your real argument is, "It was a Philly team, therefore it was the greatest."

Hey look everybody the greatest FG kick of All-Time was not a Super Bowl Game Winner but was an iconic one in a 1st Round! Because you know - the Super Bowl one the game was tied at the end and would have went to OT if he missed anyway - but the 1st Round one won the Game and advanced them to the 2nd round! DOOOOIIIYY!!!!

In recent weeks, I've undertaken a new approach to this board. I only respond to posts worth responding to. It makes this board, and really the internet in general, a vastly more enjoyable experience.

I'm talking about the one that tied the game. I'm sure it was very confusing, what with me putting the word TIE in caps. But hey, you had nowhere else to go with the original conversation, so you may as well shift gears again, just to keep the debate going. I do appreciate the effort, frogs.

I always thought an OT goal to win a Stanley Cup was surely to be considered the greatest goal ever scored But boy was I wrong! That iconic blast from Oscar MaGoo on November 10th during the regular between Ottawa and Winipeg in 2006 certainly has that beat by a mile!

The ironic thing is he’s vehemently defending Nova ostensibly because they’re a Philly team. While they are a local team for us, they are certainly not Philly. They’re the complete antithesis of Philly, what with being located in one of the wealthiest suburbs along the Main Line. Philly might as well be the dark side of the moon next to Villanova.
