Who did a better job in the role?

That's like comparing a Porsche to a Pinto.

I don't think the comparison is fair.
Topher Grace isn't given much to do in Spider-Man 3 and is playing a much different version of Eddie Brock.

Hardy, Topher was poorly cast but Spider-man 3 had a bunch of other problems (namely it was a bloat, incomprehensible mess). Even if were strictly comparing them in the Venom suits, I still much prefer Hardy.

Ignoring his portrayal of Brock, how would you compare them strictly in the Venoms suits? Obviously Tom Hardy, but isn't it just all cgi when he is Venom? He is like 7 feet tall. The worst aspect of the Venom in Spider-Man 3 is that he is skinny. The one thing Venom gets right is the look of the character. I don't think Tom Hardy or Topher Grace are particularly good in the role, though Tom Hardy is technically well cast.

I think Christopher Meloni would have been perfect for the role, he played a violent psychopath in Oz that would been perfect for Brock/Venom.

Who did a better job in the role? Well, Topher Grace auditioned for Peter Parker / Spider-Man for the first film, but came in second behind Toby. So when Venom came up, Raimi thought he’d play Venom like black suit version of Parker. He’s a rival photographer and everything.

Well yeah he's too old now, I was refering to when SM3 came out. In the comics he was pretty much a psychopath (he's obsessed with killing Spider-man, sometimes kills civilians), he was poorly written in SM3.

I like the way he is written in Spider-Man 3 in a general sense, but he is poorly developed and the whole movie is a mess.

I'm guessing you mean the role of Venom? Please be more specific in future. Tom Hardy was funnier as Eddie Brock than Topher but his jealousy of Riz Ahmed's space billionaire character was the most pathetic thing I've seen in a comic book movie.

Topher Grace made a much better Eric Foreman than Tom Hardy ever did.

Hardy would probably win by default, but we weren't given enough time with Grace as Venom onscreen. That said, what we got of him in SM3 coulda been a lot better.
