X-men 1 and 2 and Days of Future Past - X2 and DOFP are very good especially but these movies are extremely dull and bland looking. I think this is a Bryan Singer thing
Logan - the clean, digital look wasn't a good fit for this film I think. Should have been shot on 35mm
Bohemian Rhapsody - feel like you're watching high def video. One of the most bland looking movies you can think of
the first Spider-Man - the awful special effects might have something to do with it but the film does seem to have this drab look. Too bad Raimi couldn't get Bill Pope for this because the sequels look a lot better. Also I swear everyone’s skin tone are amped up to orange
the first Hunger Games - doesn't look cinematic in any shape or form
the It movies - the clean, digital. look isn't a great fit for these movies.

They started doing that orange and blue thing--I hate how Gladiator looks. And the stupid effects with the motion--sped up and weird filtering. Grainy etc.
I don't think digital is bad --ZODIAC looked great and that was shot digital. I have never seen a modern film that so perfectly captured the feeling of being back in the late 60s-early 70s.

Spotlight is one of the most visually dull good movies that I have seen.

Darkest Hour. A lot of World War II movies have that drab look and I'm sick of it. I know it started with Saving Private Ryan and it works fine there, but not every WW2 movie has to look like Saving Private Ryan.

The first HG movie did look cinematic in fact they all do one of the only things I like about them I think you need to fix your TV. And judging from your op you don't really know what an ugly movie is, the first Spiderman looked like a colourful 2002 comic book movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man is pretty bland looking, very desaturated color scheme. The inferior follow-up looked better though.

I guess it's often to create mood, but it seems a bit contrived for the most part. Like dull colours when it's sad, then glowing colours for the turnaround

Some of the later Harry Potter films had weirdly dark brown colour grading, otherwise good movies.

The biggest issue with many older films is general appearance and film and sound quality.

Some of those Danish Dogme movies were quite powerful but looked terrible (wasn't it a criterion that the film-makers couldn't use artificial light?). There are self-consciously bleak, gritty '60s movies like The Spy Who Came in from the Cold that likewise look quite harsh, which I think was deliberate.

Some of the later Harry Potter films had weirdly dark brown colour grading, otherwise good movies. I actually really love the dark colour grading to the later films, they give a very dramatic and depressive visual flair to the series. I find it most unique in The Half-blood Prince (cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel) where the shots were dream-like and sombre. It's down to personal preference but hard to see them as ugly or unattractive.

I guess ugly or unattractive wouldn’t be the exact words to use given the purpose of them, but sometimes it’s hard to make out what’s going on. HBP does have decent cinematography.
