The 2021 DGA Award winners were announced last night in a virtual ceremony. In the Best Feature film category, Chloé Zhao was the winner for Nomadland, the first woman of color and one of the very few female nominees/winners in that category. In her acceptance speech last night she spent all of her time paying personal and very specific tributes to all of the other nominees. It was gracious and inspiring. In the First-Time Feature Film Director category, Darius Marder won for The Sound of Metal. Winning seemed to catch him by surprise and his acceptance speech was also very gracious and inspirational. Here's a list of all the other winners in every category (listed at the bottom of the article):
Congratulations to all the winners and the nominees for their exceptional work during this difficult time.

Chloé Zhao & Nomadland are locked for the Oscar. The most interesting Oscar categories will be the two actresses awards. Just heard that Anthony Hopkins won best Actor for the BAFTA, so Chadwick Boseman may not be a definite.

I watched the BAFTA awards last night.
What surprised me is that neither Anthony Hopkins nor Frances McDormand were there to receive their awards... Here is the catch: All they had to do was appear virtually, since everyone appeared on the show virtually. There were people appearing from where ever they were working (other parts of the world and all hours a day, depending on where they were).
Ang Lee received a special award for his lifetime body of work. What is that award called?

Yes, I'm sure that Hopkins wishes he had attended now. I heard this morning that he was sure Chadwick Boseman was going to win, so he went fishing in Wales instead. Don't know about Frances McDormand. Seems to me that both should have attended, especially under the circumstances of everything being virtual. I'm glad that Zhao did. I really appreciated her very gracious acceptance speech at the DGA awards, in which she devoted every moment of her time singing the praises of her fellow nominees, one after the other. Don't know the name the of BAFTA award Ang Lee received, sorry. But I'm glad he was honored that way. He's a wonderful director with a great soul.
