So I'll be 44 in a month and I think I've started perimenopause. I've started having hot flashes and night sweats and trouble sleeping. My mom was about this age when it started for her. Mentally I don't have any hang-ups about it. I'm fine with the oven going off!
My biggest complaint is the fatigue. I'm going to make doctor's appointment and ask about natural supplements. I'm not interested in hormone replacement. Did anyone here take or is taking any supplements that helped with the symptoms? Did it help with the fatigue? Everything else I can live with but I'm tired of being tired!

My mom took licorice root for all her symptoms, she was over her menopause in a year. Her mother did the hormone therapy, menopause lasted 15 years...somebody remind me again why that's even an option or why anybody would want it?

It raises the risk of breast cancer and other disorders. To me it's just unnatural unless it's way too early. It's the natural order for a woman to lose the ability to bear children when she gets to a certain age.

Ah, lovely perimenopause! I was taking D3 and calcium citrate, along with B6 and B12. I had minimal flashes (none that were bothersome 0 very minor), took no hormone therapy because - why? I came through it fine. I remember my mother had hormone therapy, and it seemed her journey went on for a decade!

They sell OTC stuff but I want to talk to a doctor before I start anything. Soy is supposed to help is my understanding.

I've often wondered why women don't discuss up this topic more often, it's something concerning all women. Thanks for bringing it up. I've been lucky so far with no systems, but the more info the better.

Not the symptoms of course, but not worrying about getting pregnant or dealing with hell week. I had a waitress tell me a horror story about getting pregnant at 45. Hell no, bring on the change!

Rene Russo did it, seemed to work fine for her, she and her daughter are both hot 30 years later.
I hear more about women who had their first/only child in their 40s, it gives me hope because I've always wanted kids, I'm 31 and things don't look prospective anytime soon, and my mom had me when she was 39, her 4th and final kid, it probably helped she already had experience with 3 others, but we turned out alright.

I'm going to assume you're female then (I was never sure)? If you are really concerned, you can always talk to a reproductive specialist. You still have time at 31, but there is always the option of freezing your eggs (I think it's kind of pricey, but might be worth looking into). If Mr. Right doesn't materialize and you are determined to have biological children, you could consider a sperm donor as well, and I think that's a valid option. Women have lots of choices now. I'm too tired to be raising babies at my age. My grandchildren wear me out! I know some women start in their 40's, and more power to them, but at this stage I like children I can give back, lol.

When I was 9 I saw Look Who's Talking, and for many years I assumed Molly's story of buying frozen sperm, taking it home, thawing it, inserting it and boom she's pregnant, was actually how artificial insemination worked, and when I was a kid I was like 'oh that's not so bad, I could do that and I wouldn't have to get married'. Knowing how it's actually done, I'm definitely not interested in getting science involved in it. I figure it'll either happen, or it won't, as much as I've always wanted kids, if I found out I couldn't have any biological children of my own, that would be the end of that, I'm not interested in surrogates, IVF, etc.

I'm not going to lie, it's been horrible for me. Constant hot flashes with upper body sweating (about 20x a day), followed by being freezing cold. Have to shower often twice a day. I don't get night sweats where you wake up sweaty - maybe only once in a while if I'm under stress (or fall asleep wrapped up in blanket). However, if I wake up in middle of night a hot flash is common. Also forgetfulness if I don't do something right when I think of it. I got blood test at OBGYN in October that confirmed, but I don't want to take HRT for the obvious reasons. I take Evening Primrose Oil (which doesn't help, but more for Omega 6) plus vitamins and alot of D3. My best friends at this point are hand held and ceiling fans.

Have you talked to a doctor about any other supplements? Nah because when I did see the doctor last September, it was because I had what felt exactly like a period (after 1 1/2 years without one) they had me get a pelvic ultrasound and blood tests etc. So I was so preoccupied with all of that I forgot to ask her about any other kind of supplements. Everything was normal, but she said if I do bleed again to come back in and they would want to do this scraping of my cervix and all this nasty sounding stuff. I was eating a lot of soy then and the ultrasound tech said she sees alot of women with cysts, bleeding etc who eat a lot of soy. I have since backed off to eating it a couple times a week, but it's hard to find stuff to eat when you are vegetarian (mostly vegan). Not to mention I have IBS on top of it so have to find foods that don't bother that as well. *sigh*

I wouldn't be happy with a surprise like that. I'm also a vegetarian and I eat a lot of soy. That's good info to have. I was going to ask about some of these. The #1 product doesn't look like it has soy. It might be worth asking about. menopause-supplement-reviews.info/best-menopause-supplements-guide_2019.php?f=adwords_menopause-pills&gclid=Cj0KCQjwyN-DBhCDARIsAFOELTkBdnvcUgnVcdW-qYv2HH9SxZK8cb32HiYOmWJK3YyH7WYj-AVsFYoaAgXtEALw_wcB

So I'm always terrified I'm going to bleed again. And if I wasn't already worried about getting the Covid Vaccine, I read a lot of women having post-menopausal bleeding as a side effect from it. Great..... That looks like a good supplement and appears to be soy-free from what I can see. There are so many natural supplements I've seen on the market and tempted to try some for the hot flashes, but I've been so scared they may cause me to start bleeding so I've avoided them. I just don't want to go through another long-winded doctor visit with all these tests etc. because it's just too stressful. I'm not a good patient lol.

I'm 52 ish. I started last Summer-I'll blame it on Covid. I have no problem with sweats. My only issue is my periods. I went 3 months without. Then it came back for two weeks. Then a month and half, then back again for two weeks. I'm like WTH is this? Then gone for a bit. Then yowza last Thursday it came back & on Saturday-I gushed. Yes, literally several times through out the day. Oh & I had to get my first vaccine shot. TG I didn't have to wait. Because barely got home & gush. Had to look it up because I thought-is this normal? Well apparently some get this during reg. periods. I'm so sorry for any who do. But Sunday, completely gone. That was a really weird one. Never had issues before. I do drink lots of water with raw apple cider vinegar mixed in-use a packet of sweet n low-tastes good. I eat vegies all week, low on the sugar despite being a pro baker. So the only problem was this past week. They do say to take ibuprofen as well-to combat any symptoms with the M, but last thing I want to take-since it really is not good for you.

I do have a small benign growth in my uterus which I have ultrasounded and biopsied each year. It's always negative, and this is normal for those post-menoposal - what I mean to say is that it's not unusual for these little benign growths to occur. My mom and my sister had them - nothing. Just keep an eye on it.
