It seems that U2 must get along pretty well with each other. I'm not a U2 expert, but I don't recall anyone quitting, no "hiatuses", no solo projects. For a band that's been around since the early 70's, that's rare.
I always wondered how hugely successful bands are so willing to slit their own throats. Like the Beatles, how can you screw something up that works so well? The Police were at their peak, "the Biggest Band in the World" when Synchronicity came out. And they break up. I'm sure we have all had co-workers that we tolerated for the sake of a paycheck. And, more than likely, none of us have had paychecks like Paul McCartney or Sting. I could put up with a whole lot for that kind of cash.

The Police. Between Stewart Copeland (drummer) and Sting. Got so bad between the two of them, Stewart positioned his cymbal in a way so that he wouldn't have to look at Sting. As well, on the cymbal, he wrote something like "FU, Sting". Joker's Wilde Interesting, and kinda sad, I didn't know that about The Police ty

Oh yeah, I've stuck it out in a toxic environment more than once, but, talk about synchronicity something brought these bands together making magic (for the most part ) so it's kinda sad. But like you sad in an earlier post it's often ego that sets in, certainly with the brothers in CCR. ZZ top seem to have hit a stride and been together for a long time, good example with U2. Thanks TheGoodMan!

Then again, Aerosmith hasn't had a real lineup change and they were notorious for acrimony.
I read two books on Keith Moon, Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend's autobiographies and no one mentioned a lot of bad blood among the Who, other than Moonie being unable to perform due to the alcohol.
And no one had mentioned the Sex Pistols, although I think their infighting might have made them a better group

I'll have to look for a documentary on Aeorsmith, I'm too lazy to read a book TheGoodMan! I've watched a few now, hence the thread. I just find it fascinating when talent, limelight, money, drugs, and personality come together. A bit off topic, but some stories are very tragic, such as Whitney Houston. How is that Tina Turner "made it" but not Whitney? Some people are better or less sensitive at playing the game. Interesting point about infighting making a better group. Difficult but true, suffering is often fodder for artistic inspiration. Edit: Whitney did 'make it' she left behind her incredible gift, but I'm sure she would have done a 180 had she had a crystal ball and saw what would happen to her and her daughter.

This year also marks the 30th anniversary of when the first song from country band named Diamond Rio went to radio named "Meet In The Middle". It became the first of their five #1 songs. Its been six years now since their last album named I Made It got released. If the band is still a band and I pray that they are because they are awesome, all six of the original members should still be there. God bless you and every member always!!! Holly Wow, I have never heard a Diamond Rio song, but when I was young I had an autographed picture of them because someone who worked with my mom was dating one of the members. I wish I still had it.

Rush seemed to have one of the best band dynamics. Geddy and Alex seem to be best friends and somehow managed to work and maintain a friendship with an oddball like Neil Peart for 40 years.

Best: Grateful Dead, other than a very brief period in 1968 where both Bob Weir and Pigpen were on the verge of being replaced, that is a band that worked very democratically for over 30 years.
Worst, that hasn't been mentioned yet: Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. One could make a pretty damn good movie based on all of the trials and tribulations that took place with those guys. ALL of them have had issues with ALL of the other guys. At some point, everyone has been mad at somebody, nowadays Crosby is the one on the outs with both Neil and, most surprisingly, Nash. NEVER thought Crosby and Nash would be enemies, but that's the case now. At some point in the future, probably when all 4 guys are dead, someone is gonna make a great film about CSNY.

That's really interesting millar70, I'm a big Neil Young fan, but never knew of the strife within CSNY Of course his wanting to go solo was likely part of it. You know how you shouldn't judge an artist by their life style, drugs, divorce, you name it well I struggle with that with Neil Young. The way he left his wife for whatshername; I haven't forgiven him for that. I know, it's his gift that I loved before that matters. Working on it.

I'm a huge Neil fan, but that divorce was a pretty nasty, awful surprise. Now it does take two to make a relationship disintegrate, so it's hard to be too judgmental, but Neil immediately hooking up with Daryl Hannah and moving towards LA was pretty rough. And then his ex, Pegi, died a year or two afterwards, some say of a broken heart. That's actually what's caused the latest rift in the CSNY saga. Crosby made some comments to the media, not just about Neil's situation but also Nash starting up a relationship with a much younger woman as well. Both guys were furious and have said they won't work with Crosby ever again. Pretty sad stuff, and pretty silly when you realize these are real old guys feuding over kind of high school-ish kind of things.

Absolutely, they're not new at the game. I wonder if groups ever go to shrinks? It's not a bad idea.

Aerosmith did have the one album, Rock in a Hard Place, that Perry and Whitford weren’t on. Features the single Lightning Strikes, probably their last decent song before they went pop. This lineup only lasted for the one album. Interesting factoid - Rick Dufay, the guitarist that replaced Brad Whitford, is Minka Kelly’s father.

Perry left midway through its recording. The drug use was increasing and there were fights that included their wives. That’s rock n roll man.
