Do any of you remember this disaster?
I remember Franco being interviewed right before the show and he had a "deer in the headlights" look that spelled trouble.
Franco had low energy, looked disinterested, and seemed like he'd rather be elsewhere while Hathaway was overly perky and desperately trying to overcompensate for Franco's lackadaisical performance. The two were like oil and water together. They were only paired together as a means to appeal to youthful audiences.
Some quotes that perfectly describe their work together:
"It was like the world’s most uncomfortable blind date between the cool rocker stoner kid and the adorable theatre camp cheerleader."
"The idea was that they were young and that was all that mattered. But they had no real chemistry. When they got together to do the promos for the show, they were edited to look as if they had chemistry, but they had no chemistry."
"Anne’s a precision instrument. She’s very disciplined and knew what she was going to do each time. And James is freewheeling, so he was not really in his comfort zone. Plus, James had brought in a bunch of Judd Apatow writers who had never been involved with the show before, throwing him stuff."
"She showed up ready to play and committed 110 percent," Rubin recalled. "And he was a great guy but often looked like he had just woken up from a nap. It's almost like you're showing up to a tennis court and one person decided that they were going to play in the U.S. Open and the other wanted to play in jeans and just kind of hit a few balls."

Still probably the most memorable Oscar ceremony of the last ten, twelve years;though I do think the objectively 'best' one was when DeGeneres hosted it. It was just weird pairing them together. I wouldn't call it low-energy, Franco just looked baked off his ass.

I remember watching this. Anne Hathaway was trying her best to compensate for James Franco's lack of enthusiasm because Franco just zoned out nearly an hour into the broadcast. It was just an odd pairing that resonated no chemistry.

I think I may have seen it. Not sure whether it was at the time of airing or at some subsequent date. Don't really remember anything about it though.
The 2017 Oscars - when La La Land was erroneously won the Best Picture award - is the one that stands out most in my mind. I'll never forget that one.
