I just want to say how happy it makes me that Michael Keaton's been recognised globally by critics for his work in the last 10 years or so. I always thought he fell through the cracks because he wasn't perceived as being an all-out comedic actor or a serious dramatic actor, but lay somewhere inbetween. When I was a kid reading film magazines back in the 1980s, everybody who worked with Keaton, or met with him, seemed to recount having a nice experience in a high pressure situation.
I wish I had something more to say at the moment, or a more inclusive topic to post, but that's all really so please add whatever your heart desires. When people ask me if there's a star actor I'd like to meet, I say Keaton, they say "Really". I say, "... Yeh".

I’ve always liked him. He’s also from my hometown, or close enough to count it. But even before I knew that he was Beetlejuice and Batman!

Michael Keaton is awesome and he is one of my favorite actors. Who would have thought the goofy guy from Mr. Mom and Night Shift would go on to give bad-ass superhero performances and be great at playing menacing villains. Not sure how many people here know how many times he has played a villain and every time he has elevated the movie he has been in.
He has been giving Oscar caliber performances since 1988 and that year he was in top form. His first full dramatic performance as an alcoholic in Clean and Sober and his iconic comedic performance in Beetlejuice. I wouldn't have argued if he was nominated for both.
He is equally good at comedy as he is at drama and Birdman is one of the greatest comebacks for an actor.

I too wish the Academy had recognised his talent earlier. Perhaps it didn't help that Michael Keaton never seemed like he tried to be cool a la Brando (unless it was for laughs). It was like he was as happy hanging out with Ron Howard, Billy Crystal and Tom Hanks as Rodney Dangerfield, yet he could get crazy all the same.
Low hanging fruit. ![](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ea/52/c2/ea52c214dc8f6dcb913655366c4db616.gif)

Truly one of my all-time favorite actors. From his early days like Night Shift and Mr Mom, through Beetlejuice and Batman, through Clean And Sober and Pacific Heights, through his newer stuff like Birdman, Spotlight, and The Other Guys..... he's always good. Always.
Plus, I share a birthday with him (Sept 5th).
