Watched the remastered 4K IMAX release last night. The Ultimate Cut is superior to the theatrical cut but its flaws are now just slightly less visible. Honestly, I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if it weren't for Jesse Eisenberg's terrible performance. On his commentary track, Zack Snyder mentions how satisfied he is with the performance. Equal blame to go around, I guess. What was Lex's plan? He sees Superman as a fraud and threat to humanity. His solution is to create a far more dangerous and uncontrollable monster to kill Supes. I guess he didn't think too far ahead. Affleck and Cavill still do fine in their respective roles. The best moments come late in the film when Batman clears a warehouse full of goons. It's still fucking awesome.

Honestly just remember not liking it. Don’t remember many details any more. Outside of really rooting for Superman to kick Batman’s ass.

Agreed, the warehouse fight is the best scene in the movie. Jesse Eisenberg is bloody awful as Lex Luthor and both Amy Adams and Henry Cavill are wasted. Despite this being a 'sequel' to his own movie. Gal Gadot is a sole bright spot and I actually do like Affleck as Batman better than expected. It remains my least favorite DCEU movie and I didn't bother with the extended cut.

The ultimate cut is slightly better if only for more explanation. I think it's decently watchable but also a bit of a slog. Affleck and Gadot were highlights, but Eisenberg is still one of the worst villain performances in CBM history. I might marathon the DCEU at some point this year but as of now, this is probably still my least favorite.

Theatrical Cut: 6/10 Ultimate Cut: 8/10 (i.e., as good as the best MCU films)

I agree with basically everything you said. 6/10 for me.
I think if Eisenberg was replaced by someone with more menace it'd be much better. He's just goofy and weird. Personally, I wouldn't have minded seeing Mendelsohn in the role, but maybe that's just carry-over from seeing him play power-hungry douchebags in both TDKR and Rogue One.

For me the main problem is that the movie wants to be a Man of Steel sequel, introduce the Justice League, be a Batman vs Superman film and the Death of Superman. It's like 5 different movies combined into one.
Doomsday for me is the biggest problem with the movie as not feels unnecessary and contrived, the origin story for the monster isn't made better but worse and the Death of Superman is misplaced. Zack Snyder's arc about Superman becoming the all loving here he's meant to be across five films doesn't need his death.
I think if you're going to adapt the Death of Superman, two things need to happen first: Superman needs to be all loving hero already and the Justice League needs to be fully formed. That's why animated movie of the Death of Superman does it much better.
Anyway, the Ultimate Cut is the only version that people should watch.

He played rather dull cardboard cutout villains in those films let's just stick with Billy Zane.

I love it.
Dark modern mythology.
Lex’s plan was very good. I love how he purposely misquotes Greek Mythology when Diana is at his party (because he knows who she is)... just to appear aloof.
There’s a lot of depth to love here. If you’re willing to look for it.

I love the BvS version of Bruce, truly fascinating stuff. He's a super villain in this film, straight up. His scenes I could watch on a loop. As a whole, the movie sucks.

Lex knew Kryptonite would kill Superman (and Doomsday because he was made from Zod’s DNA), he wanted to take out all the heroes at once. He pitted Batman against Superman. Made them both look like villains. Tried to make the world hate Superman, planting seeds (the desert and capitol bombing)... Made it look like Batman was a murderous vigilante with no regard for human life (so Clark would investigate)... He invited Diana to the party (at the beginning) to connect her and Bruce. Knowing he would get the jump on her and also giving her a reason to fight and help again (Doomsday). Hoping Doomsday would kill Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman at the same time, he would then kill Doomsday with Kryptonite. Making him look like a hero. Then, he would definitely get the Government to give him the funding and pass the bill needed to manufacture weapons to protect the world. He would look like the hero. And make a fortune in the process. (Something he was denied by the Kentucky Senator at the beginning, whom he killed and framed Superman all at the same time) So basically he was spreading fear and propaganda to force and bend his will. Then profit off the chaos. You know, like our government does in real life with the media.

He's lucky the heroes won, which was the opposite of his plan.

I always assumed the idea was that Lex didn’t care if Doomsday destroyed the world.

It's like 5 different movies combined into one. As opposed to 30 different characters shoe-horned into one Avengers film... The BVS Ultimate Cut is 3 hours long, and to me it does a good job covering/introducing what it needs to. I'm not a Zack Snyder "fan" (I dislike 300 and SUCKER PUNCH; am indifferent to WATCHMEN), but I think his DCEU "Trilogy" is pretty friggin' awesome. Epic in scope, operatic in theme and tone... A lot of the visuals, freeze-framed, could absolutely be panels in a graphic novel. (Which is, you know, kind of awesome when we're dealing with comic book movies.) In comparison, much of the MCU comes off as bland and over-stuffed.

ZSJL is the only DCEU movie for me now, the rest are non existent for me.
