For me the main problem is that the movie wants to be a Man of Steel sequel, introduce the Justice League, be a Batman vs Superman film and the Death of Superman. It's like 5 different movies combined into one. As opposed to 30 different characters shoe-horned into one Avengers film... The BVS Ultimate Cut is 3 hours long, and to me it does a good job covering/introducing what it needs to. I'm not a Zack Snyder "fan" (I dislike 300 and SUCKER PUNCH; am indifferent to WATCHMEN), but I think his DCEU "Trilogy" is pretty friggin' awesome. Epic in scope, operatic in theme and tone... A lot of the visuals, freeze-framed, could absolutely be panels in a graphic novel. (Which is, you know, kind of awesome when we're dealing with comic book movies.) In comparison, much of the MCU comes off as bland and over-stuffed. The MCU has personality while the DCEU doesn't. Zack Snyder's version of Batman is a miserable out of his depth tired bloated moron that fucks Superman's wife and gets her pregnant with Batbaby. The MCU not having a schizophrenic visionary at the helm who just throws shit at the wall really helps too. As for the visuals the slow motion ruins it for me I can't stand slow motion for retards other than that it's fine.

Watched the remastered 4K IMAX release last night. The Ultimate Cut is superior to the theatrical cut but its flaws are now just slightly less visible. Honestly, I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if it weren't for Jesse Eisenberg's terrible performance. On his commentary track, Zack Snyder mentions how satisfied he is with the performance. Equal blame to go around, I guess. What was Lex's plan? He sees Superman as a fraud and threat to humanity. His solution is to create a far more dangerous and uncontrollable monster to kill Supes. I guess he didn't think too far ahead. Affleck and Cavill still do fine in their respective roles. The best moments come late in the film when Batman clears a warehouse full of goons. It's still fucking awesome.
2.5 out of 4
Haven't seen it yet. However, if I ever do, I'll try to watch the ultimate cut to avoid that other rubbish.

Avengers doesn't suffer from the inclusion of many characters because most of them got their one solo movies and besides, I'm not complaining about the number of characters in BvS, I'm complaining that BvS has different movies wrapped into one. And don't think I'm a MCU fanboy. I think there are MCU movies worse than BvS, for example I'm trying to think of anything memorable in Ant Man and the Wasp other than Luis's narration and the post credit scene and I got nothing. Just a big meh.. I just feel that first live action Batman/Superman movie deserved better.

Lex knew Kryptonite would kill Superman (and Doomsday because he was made from Zod’s DNA), he wanted to take out all the heroes at once. He pitted Batman against Superman. Made them both look like villains. Tried to make the world hate Superman, planting seeds (the desert and capitol bombing)... Made it look like Batman was a murderous vigilante with no regard for human life (so Clark would investigate)... He invited Diana to the party (at the beginning) to connect her and Bruce. Knowing he would get the jump on her and also giving her a reason to fight and help again (Doomsday). Hoping Doomsday would kill Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman at the same time, he would then kill Doomsday with Kryptonite. Making him look like a hero. Then, he would definitely get the Government to give him the funding and pass the bill needed to manufacture weapons to protect the world. He would look like the hero. And make a fortune in the process. (Something he was denied by the Kentucky Senator at the beginning, whom he killed and framed Superman all at the same time) So basically he was spreading fear and propaganda to force and bend his will. Then profit off the chaos. You know, like our government does in real life with the media. He unleashed a literal monster he had no idea how to control. At least Superman was the devil he knew. He's lucky the heroes won, which was the opposite of his plan. But he weaponized kryptonite in his lab. He studied Zods DNA in order to know how to stop Doomsday. He wanted him to kill the heroes, so he could use his weapon to kill Doomsday. He did understand the monster. He researched it. Just like Superman killed him with the Kryptonite spear, he had a weapon ready to kill Doomsday. Then tell the Government he could protect the world with his weapons. Make a huge profit off of them, and have Superman dead. He couldn’t kill Superman, because he would have looked like a murder. But letting Doomsday kill him, he then kills Doomsday and he is on top.

But letting Doomsday kill him, he then kills Doomsday and he is on top. Here's the thing. Did the plot of the film resolve the way Luthor wanted? No. It was out of his control, despite his best efforts. Yet somehow you're assuming if Doomsday had killed the heroes, everything would've gone exactly according to plan. We'll never know for sure, but as of right now, Luthor is 0-1 in the sinister plot department. It was beyond reckless to do what he did, that's what makes him the villain of the story. Just like Batman. I watched the actual fight on youtube the other day and was reminded how nonsensical the entire movie actually is. Bruce is looking for a fight, but Clark knows the real danger and comes to Bruce for help. Bruce hits him with a few traps that have absolutely no effect on him, and Clark just goes berserk and starts throwing Bruce around. It's idiotic. Imagine my mother's house was on fire and I found a bystander to help me out. I ask for help, but instead of helping me, he shoots a rubber band at me. I abandon all reason, knowing what's at stake, and decide to beat the shit out of the guy for shooting a rubber band at me. Only this is dumber because as Superman and Batman, they are two of the most powerful people on the planet. Crazy Batman is awesome, every line of dialog from Bruce in this movie is pure villainous gold. But the plot makes no sense at all. Ultimately, Lex and Bruce hate Superman for the same reason-- they fear his presence takes their power-- their control over their world. Affleck's performance is incredible while Eisenberg is playing the Riddler instead of Lex Luthor. Cavill is given nothing to do which explains his wooden performance, but it doesn't explain the character's utter stupidity leading up to the final fight. It's a shit show from top to bottom.
