I don't mean for work, I'm talking vacation. I'm thinking of doing it later this year (hopefully) but I have a feeling I'd be bored shitless even if it's just for a weekend.

I love it. Its not to say I dont enjoy vacationing with someone but I equaly enjoy going on my own. Especially these days its so simple to connect or at least communicate with other people wherever you are. Go for it. Spending time by yourself and enjoying it is a very valuable skill. Where are you thinking of going? I travelled on my own: India, China, Macau, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Aserbaijan, Emirates, South Africa, Colombia, Argetina/Patagonia, a few hours into Chile (and a lot of Europe). The only place I Did Not travel alone is the US I am realizing now. Not for some specific reason it just worked out that way I guess... I absolutely love exploring a place on my own, unhindered by what anyone else wants to do or talk about at that time, going at my own pace, doing whatever I want. Go for it! Bring a good book or a movie along for down time or evenings and enjoy. Often you end up making connections with people along the way anyway.

I did it once (a week in the Lake District) but then wasted many years by not bothering to travel and then after I settled down all holidays were family holidays. I did go to Australia by myself but I had family and friends to stay with so not quite the same thing.

Like others have said, I actually prefer solo travel. I like to push myself outside of my comfort zone and immerse myself in the culture. Solo travelers are far more approachable than groups, so it's extremely easy to meet the locals, and they're usually more than willing to open up and give you insights into their cultures. I sometimes meet new people and travel with them for a while, but I'm always kind of relieved when we part ways and I can go off wandering by myself again. I just love the freedom and adventure of solo travel. I would never call it boring.

Yes. I “tramped” around quite a bit by myself. It is a great way to get to know and observe people other than the folks you already know...which itself can be an eye opener.

I (used to) travel often for work, and if it is somewhere near an interesting place to visit where I have never been before, I will try to take some extra days to go there. For instance, a couple of years ago I did a job in northern Italy and instead of flying back right away on Friday, I took the train to Venice, spent the weekend there, and flew back on Monday. This kind of thing I’ve done many times, and I enjoy it – although probably less so now than when I was younger. On one hand it’s good to be alone and decide by myself what I want to do, where and what and when I want to eat, and all that – but on the other hand it’s not fun to have nobody to talk to.

Almost every vacation I have taken as an adult has been solo. I love my friends, but when I take a vacation I want to do what I want to do on my schedule. And most of my friends like to take the well trodden path and do the tourist things. I like to go out and walk around and do the side streets.
Europe, Brazil, Japan and China are the places I have been to outside the US and I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything.

No. I have not gone on 'Vacation' on my own...
The closest that I have come to that, was driving to a museum a couple hours away, and then back home...
But I have 'travelled' by myself a few times...
I drove my car to my Grandmother's home a couple of times, which was about an 11 hour trip, one way...

Like birdie said, no one to share it with. But you don't have to go to a fancy restaurant when you just want a gelato (or vice versa) I'm too social. Wouldn't work for me

I have traveled; alone, with 1-2 friends, with my Mom, and in a group of 6 (who were all friends of the person who organized the group). I've enjoyed every one of them.
For me, the joy of traveling alone is the sense of total independence for what I choose to do, and when. My most ambitious solo journey was over the Christmas/New Year holiday in 2018/2019, when I went from the US west coast to London, for Christmas, and took the Eurostar, to Paris for New Year ... then, back to London for the flight home. I, actually, did meet a former colleague for a lunch in Paris, which was lovely.
But, I've traveled all over the US, on my own.
I like to travel with others who agree that a bit of time to go off on an occasional private outing, is acceptable. The major exception to that was when I traveled with my Mom, after my Dad died. She was unsure of doing things by herself, and we were always together on those memorable trips.

I've traveled alone, but only within the States. I used to do it quite frequently and I loved it.
I would make an adventure out of it and had so much fun. Even exploring airports that I had never been to could be interesting.

Before the Plague, I went on trips alone. If you're into photography, bring your camera (or make sure your phone is charged, if you aren't into dealing with film), and make excursions out to take photos. Wander, try little local places like a family owned bistro or a town library, slip down to the beach at non-peak hours or take a hike. It's fun going alone.

I went to Italy for a week by myself and had a great time. I move fast and spend little, so in some ways it's preferable solo. Most people can't keep up with me on trips.
