The Blue Nile - From A Late Night Train The Blue Nile and their lovely A Walk Across The Rooftops (1984), turned out to be among some of the best "impulse" purchases, I have ever done. Right up there with XTC - Skylarking (1986), Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen (1985), Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden (1988) and Rush - Signals (1982), as one of those rare albums/artists, who somehow, in a weird yet comforting way, kind of felt like an old friend. I love the tender or fragile sounds and atmosphere of those 80s The Blue Nile albums and songs, or at least (Across the Rooftops and Hats) of which I own. But also because they come with a certain "romantic" sadness to them. And I do not mean something which puts me down, but more of the complete opposite. Not many are able of doing that to me, but I am also glad, they included not only "downbeat" songs, but a few more upbeat ones as well. Nice with a bit of variety, but would not mind an entire album filled with moody atmospheric ballads. Anyway, I guess this one counts as two, for the "price of one". Anyway, I tend to play Van Morrison and his albums, usually much later in the year, like in late fall, where Moondance and Into the Music makes up as the the perfect albums to go with, during those late saturday nights.

I always had a soft spot, for nordic crime shows. Well, probably a bit more, when it comes to the swedish made, specially around the mid 90s and into the 00s. While my favorite (of the Wallander actors), surely will always be Rolf Lassgård, I did kind of like the later one, starring Krister Henriksson, but it got a bit too depressing and just too many tv films/episodes, came out, and few where as good or memorable, as the best with Lassgård. Still, one thing that I always noticed, were that many of these shows and series, came with very soothing and calm music/themes:
Anna Ternheim - Quiet Night
I believe this one, were the main theme or end theme, of the show, during the seasons made around 2009-2010. Loved watching the show, during late summer nights, just before I got to bed. Cozy and comforting, like with the older Midsumer Murders series.
Beck (1993-95) End Titles
I always thought of Peter Haber and Mikael Persbrandt, as the Beck/Gunvald, but were pleasantly surprised, when I picked up a few of the earlier Beck tv-movies, which were made around 1993-95, and I believe followed much closer, to the original source, where as the more famous and well known (at least in Scandinavia) with Haber and Persbrandt, seemed to be only relative to the books/novels, in names and characters, but mostly with more focus on new stories/settings and much more pace/action. The one from 1993-95 were surely more slow moving, yet included some not exactly unkown names, as Gøsta Ekman and Rolf Lassgård did great here, and this was before Lassgård ended up as Wallander. Anyway, always loved the atmospheric and nice little main theme, those tv films ended with.
The later ones, from the Haber/Persbrandt era, had several different main/end themes, but my favorite where the more "vocal" one, from I believe the seasons which were made around 2006-07:
Speaking of beautiful and relaxing, late night music, that made it into these swedish-crime shows, I also forgot, that Fläskkvartetten made several of the cuts which ended up in the later Wallander show, with Krister Henriksson. But I also remember hearing this incredible nice little theme, from a norwegian teen-drama, called Schpaa (1998), where I am damn sure, that music were included, at least in one scene. Never forgot it, and did not find it again, until I heard it on an episode of Wallander, many years later.

Not all of the children music compilation/artists, are something I would call "relaxing", in most cases, anything but that. Still, one album that I still treasure, from my childhood, is the Folk Er Rare 2 (1988) or People Are Strange 2, which featured some rather heavy themes, for an record that went under the "childen music" genre of that time. But it is not just the lyrics, but the music itself, which I guess is why it had such a lasting impact on me. I loved the warm, playful and atmospheric jazz-big band styled sounds and melodies, even some great improvisations they had going, and where I always played this song, right before I went to bed:
Maj Britt Andersen - God Natt Tel Deg (1988)
Or Good Night To You, and where the last 1 and a half minute outro, is pure magic. A sweet and cozy good night lullaby, from my childhood.

I could only get number 1-16, and I admit, they are good relaxing songs. Fit the bill. And I don't say in a condescending way. I say that I'm impressed.
I'm hoping some of my favorite relaxing songs are on there:
Stylistics-STONE IN LOVE WITH YOU Mel Carter-HOLD ME THRILL ME KISS ME Jonathon King-EVERYONE'S GONE TO THE MOON Lauper-ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT Wonder-A PLACE IN THE SUN Lennon-NUMBER NINE DREAM ELO-ONE SUMMER DREAM Bangles-ETERNAL FLAME
Please say some made the list, especially STONED IN LOVE WITH YOU. I always have to sing along with being the owner of the first house on the Moon.
