On a semi related note you now can no longer use PayPal to get paid on eBay. That’s really bizarre. I think I should just leave that awful site. Not sure where I’d sell my old stuff though. I don't use eBay, but what's this about not being able to use PayPal? What the heck do they want you to use?

I don't use eBay, but what's this about not being able to use PayPal? What the heck do they want you to use? ebay no longer owns PayPal so they are no longer directly affiliated. Buyers can still use it to pay of course, but sellers now have to deal with ebay directly for payment. It's got it's ups and downs, I can't say one way was better than the other.

Like Tut says above you gotta do “direct payment” which goes directly to your linked bank account, which I’m not thrilled with. I like PayPal as a intermediary. And I don’t really want my bank info available on eBay. Plus they need social security numbers now too! WTF. That’s too much private info.

Do they expect buyers to be providing that kind of info as well? In my entire life, I've made a total of 3 purchases from eBay. Actually, I forgot, and I did make a purchase from eBay about a month or so ago, (before that, it was years) and what I do not like, is they've since been spamming my email with all types of bizarre "sales" notifications. I'd never sell anything on there.

What a coincidence, I just ripped off some sucker on ebay. Took him a while to send my item, I waited for him to send it then opened an investigation and got a full refund. You snooze, you lose!!

UPDATE: The guy just sent me a nice message apologizing, and he claims he opened the case before I contacted him and didn’t realize he was refunded. Not sure I buy it completely, but he says he is gonna try to send me the money, I also got a warning from eBay saying that requesting money from buyers outside of transactions is not allowed. So I may get the ten dollars and I may also get banned for eBay. Phase two of my plan is in motion...

UPDATE: The guy just sent me a nice message apologizing, and he claims he opened the case before I contacted him and didn’t realize he was refunded. Not sure I buy it completely, but he says he is gonna try to send me the money, I also got a warning from eBay saying that requesting money from buyers outside of transactions is not allowed. Another UPDATE just in case anyone is still interested: got a full transfer for the ten bucks. eBay rep reversed the decision. Buyer apologized. I told him it’s all good and kinda my fault anyway. Forgiveness. Fairness. All is right with the world. Happy endings all around (the non sexual kind, I mean).

And eBay seemed happy to reverse the decision after the delivery was confirmed. It was a very nice surprise to have it all work though.

It was a very nice surprise to have it all work though. Glad things turned out well. I’ve found most buyers to be pretty reasonable and willing to work with you when things go wrong. Despite the website’s flaws, the eBay community is mostly good people. |
