I won’t go into spoilers (you can look them up on your own if you’re interested) but the leaks seem to be legit now. So the multiverse is definitely confirmed and we know from Molina that the villains are indeed from the same canon as the previous franchises.
I think it’s pretty awesome. A live action Spiderverse movie is a brilliant idea. Bringing back Toby is very exciting, as is having DeFoe’s Goblin as the main villain.
But at the same time, leaning so hard on the classic Spidey movies, while exciting, is kind of pathetic in a way. It really kind of officially throws in the towel for the Holland trilogy standing on its own. It has already been arguably too dependent on the Iron Man series and now it’s going to basically give up on creating its own villains and instead steal the RAIMI incarnations of the classic rogues.
Still, I hope it has a good script. For me seeing the classic characters will be a real treat. But I’d hate to see them used in a soulless or overly contrived gimmick.
What say you?

It's just a gimmick and one that makes no sense. Dr. Octopus died at the end of Spider-Man 2, why is he back? Norman died at the end of Spider-Man, why is he back?

I’d rather the third Spider-Man film focus specifically on following up the mid credit scene in the last movie, rather than being a live action movie about the Spider-Verse. It also seems dumb to bring back Raimi’s Doctor Octopus and Green Goblin.

Although I think it’s a have your cake and eat it too approach where it’s sort of the old canon and sort of not. As far as this plot goes all you need to know is that Spidey villains from other realities are coming to this one to obtain a Stark related MacGuffin and alternate Spideys are pursuing them. Are they literally the same versions? When exactly did they cross over from the original canon? I don’t think those questions will actually come into it. The redesigns confirm that they’re playing it all very loosely.

I'm not a fan either. I think it's too early to go with a multiverse. If they're planning to go cross-movie platforms, it would make more sense to simply bring in Venom and Morbius. Leave the Raimi Spidermen movies alone.

It wasn’t the direction that I expected them to go after seeing Far From Home. But I’m still curious how it pans out.

I’m excited to see what the Goblin redesign looks like. I always thought they could’ve done better with the costume.
