...comes up because of that Chuck Connors thread. In The Big Country (1958) Connors is killed by his own dad (Burl Ives). Now I'm trying to think of a movie that predates The Big Country where a parent kills their offspring. I don't know of one. Does anybody?
EDIT: If you just got here, the list (now at 10) is only for films made before 1967 (and no foreign films).

Hey, I just remembered The Wolf Man (1941). Good ole Claude, I knew I could count on you.

But, given that it's Gene Tierney, I shouldn't be surprised that you had this at the ready. (By the way, I made my comments on Leave Her To Heaven on your Crain thread in case you missed it.

TARAS BULBA -- dad Yul Brynner offs son Tony Curtis I never saw Taras Bulba. Did Curtis have it coming, like Connors? Or was Yul a rotten dad? (Even though it doesn't predate The Big Country, it's close enough)

EARLIER than 'COUNTRY'?
OK -- back to the drawing board.

EARLIER than 'COUNTRY'? OK -- back to the drawing board. I bet it's an extremely short list. Single digits, I'd say.

All right -- how's this for a couple of earlier parent kills offsprings?
DARK COMMAND -- mom Marjorie Main does in raider son Walter Pidgeon
THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE -- matriarch Ethel Barrymore realizes her boy George Brent is a psycho killer of imperfects and puts a stop to him with a bullet.

And then there's father Donald Crisp strangling daughter Lillian Fish in BROKEN BLOSSOMS.
1919 -- I think that covers the spread.

Dark Command (1940). See this movie because it comes up from time to time in Garth Games. Killer/ Victim Bros and Sis, etc. Yes, a parent kills a son in this movie...
Did Marjorie Main also kill her son in Dead End (1937), or, did someone else do it?

That's not fair Matt, I was composing my post re: Dark Command while you were posting the same.

Just seeing what kind of a list we can come up with by putting our heads together.

I'm always poised to insert Gene into any thread I can. I didn't miss your post - glad you seemed to like it - but I wanted to give it another spin myself , hopefully with my Dad over weekend, before responding . Well I envy you never having seen GESTURE - quite dazzling set of Mother Gin Sling's gambling den (brothel in the play) I think Mike Mazurki manages the girls in cages! They don't have them in my local.

Detective Story (1951) though it's not on-camera and took place prior to the events of the film.
