In The Big Country (1958) Connors is killed by his own dad (Burl Ives). Now I'm trying to think of a movie that predates The Big Country where a parent kills their offspring. I don't know of one. Does anybody?
EDIT: If you just got here, the list (now at 10) is only for films made before 1967 (and no foreign films).

TARAS BULBA -- dad Yul Brynner offs son Tony Curtis I never saw Taras Bulba. Did Curtis have it coming, like Connors? Or was Yul a rotten dad? (Even though it doesn't predate The Big Country, it's close enough)

I'm always poised to insert Gene into any thread I can. I didn't miss your post - glad you seemed to like it - but I wanted to give it another spin myself , hopefully with my Dad over weekend, before responding . Well I envy you never having seen GESTURE - quite dazzling set of Mother Gin Sling's gambling den (brothel in the play)  I think Mike Mazurki manages the girls in cages! They don't have them in my local.
