Self serve was illegal in Oregan last I was there but that was in the 90s. Oregon has been "torturing," it's way toward self-serve gas, for several years. As you say, it was banned altogether, but started allowing it piecemeal in (about) 2025. I can't remember all of the details, but it started with motorcycle drivers being allowed to pump their own gas between certain hours ... I think after regular business hours. Next, they allowed car/truck drivers to self serve in counties with more sparse populations, which is mostly the eastern part of the state. In some cases, station owners have to able to produce documentation proving that they don't have sufficient staff, along with evidence of hiring/firing actions, to prove that they haven't just let employees go, and not tried to hire replacements. Occasionally, I drive up there, from California, to visit school friends. It's crazy. I don't know why they don't just look to see that self-serve works in 48 other states, and "go for it." It doesn't make sense that the service station workers lobby would be all that powerful.

Drivers forgetting to put the nozzle back and tearing the hose right from the pump as they drive off. And they scoffed when it was said to be a safety issue! In the south, I still see people smoking as they fill up. I just leave. Stupid.

I have never pumped my own gas, I wouldn't know how if I had to.

Would you like to deny far more people die in car crashes than setting themselves on fire at the pump?
No of course not, because this is where your argument ends and you just go into your lame ass insults which means you've run out of argument.
