CARNATION
The wild carnation is found in Mediterranean countries like Albania, Greece, Croatia, Italy and Spain.
Wiki notes (abridged) :
'In Portugal, bright red carnations were used when in 1974 the authoritarian Estado Novo regime was overthrown; therefore, this transition (brought about by a combination of a coup d'état with civil resistance) is known as the Carnation Revolution. Purple carnations indicate capriciousness. In France, it is a traditional funeral flower, given in condolence for the death of a loved one. In Czechia, Slovakia and Poland, carnations were traditionally given to women on the Women's Day; working men presented them to women as a sign of solidarity on International Women's Day which originated from labor movements in the early 20th century. The scarlet carnation is the state flower of the great U.S. state of Ohio.'
CHRYSANTHEMUM
The wild chrysanthemum are native to East Asia and northeastern Europe - countless horticultural varieties and cultivars exist.
Wiki notes (abridged) :
'In some countries of Europe (e.g., France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Poland, Hungary, Croatia), incurve chrysanthemums symbolize death and are used only for funerals or on graves, while other types carry no such symbolism; similarly, in China, Japan, and Korea of East Asia, white chrysanthemums symbolize adversity, lamentation, and/or grief. In some other countries, they represent honesty. In the United States, the flower is usually regarded as positive and cheerful, with New Orleans as a notable exception (where many Catholics reside). Italian composer Giacomo Puccini wrote Crisantemi (1890), a movement for string quartet, in memory of his friend Amedeo di Savoia Duca d'Aosta. Chrysanthemums are placed on graves to honor the dead during All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in Poland.'

Most, if not all flowers are pretty. But Chrysanthemums win on the name alone!

I like the name too but I easily forget what the correct plural is for some reason.

I think someone spiked this thread with a bonsai tree.
I gotta go with carnations. They're very versatile.

I think it's a chrysanthemums-bonsai hybrid.
This contest is a snail race to the finish ... but the unprecedented level of excitement reverberating soundly within the imdb2 scientific community is becoming palpable!
