Chloé Zhao (the movie’s director) has a movie that will most likely sweep the Oscars tonight. Being directed by an Oscar winning director will no doubt give The Eternals a boost in credibility. I doubt I’ll love the movie, but I’m sure it’ll be a critical and commercial darling.

I just read the wiki synopsis of Nomadland and it sounds boring as fuck no wonder the dumbass academy fawned all over it. Majority of Oscar-nominated movies ARE boring as F!@#. I never really understood what kind of metrics they use to judge those movies, other than to know they're usually movies I know I won't enjoy.

I never really understood what kind of metrics they use to judge those movies, other than to know they're usually movies I know I won't enjoy. There are no metrics. Directors vote for best directing. Actors vote for best actor etc. It's just their opinion. They're as susceptible to biases and pressure as anyone else.
