On his website's FAQ section, Victor Miller explains that he does not agree with the way the film's sequels set Jason up as the main villain instead of a victim. "To be honest, I have not seen any of the sequels, but I have a major problem with all of them because they made Jason the villain. I still believe that the best part of my screenplay was the fact that a mother figure was the serial killer---working from a horribly twisted desire to avenge the senseless death of her son, Jason. Jason was dead from the very beginning. He was a victim, not a villain. But I took motherhood and turned it on its head and I think that was great fun. Mrs. Vorhees was the mother I'd always wanted---a mother who would have killed for her kids." movieweb.com/friday-the-13th-jason-voorhees-not-the-villain/

I can understand his perspective...but fans love Jason the killer.

Jason needs to be woke. Michael too.
James Gunn should do a new version of Freddy.
I think it is perfect material for him.

I can understand his perspective...but fans love Jason the killer. It's not surprising since he was only really involved in the first movie, and he's also not wrong. That twist is really interesting and doesn't fall into the typical slasher thing... but the first movie also does set up Jason as the next thing, and the entire franchise is based around the grown up killer Jason and I can't imagine whatever studio that gets involved will care to develop a new Friday the 13th series without killer Jason.

I can see him doing another reboot of part 1 if he gets the rights back. Focusing on Pamela.
I would've liked a longer flashback of Pamela in the 2009 version. Nana Visitor was pretty good as Pamela I thought.

He doesn't like the way Jason was portrayed, but wants to make as much money off of those portrayals as possible. Sounds about right.

I found it hard to believe he never saw any of the sequels. Come buddy, you were never curious in forty years to check them out? How does he know Jason is a villain anyway? Some of us cheer him on, ya know.

Woke? I can't imagine Jason being vegan and obsessed with identity politics somehow 😀 No I can see it happening! Don't assume they wouldn't! It's interesting to think that Leatherface is technically a tranny isn't he?
It was part of the horror of the character--same with Buffalo Bill.
A number of giallos had plots about murderous lesbians.

I guess you can't blame him for the latter too much, but it also makes it seem clear that if he gets control of the property and does anything new with it that he's clearly gonna go for something that fans are not gonna go for at all.

Maybe. Or maybe he'd team up with a studio/producer that knows better and keeps him in line. Who knows. I just want my goddamn Jason in the snow movie already. And not just a fan film, fine as Never Hike Alone was.

Of course Jason was mistreated, that's part of the original point. Now that doesn't justify the mass murders he ends up doing throughout, but that's the character. Don't need to make this more complicated than it needs to be.

A frozen Crystal Lake in the snow with some real production values is what fans have wanted to see forever... so odd they never did it.

They rejected that script. Jenna was supposed to be found frozen in the Lake.
The rejected scripts sounded pretty awful. There was an article on Bloody-disgusting about them.

Jason isn't the killer in A New Beginning. Maybe he'd enjoy that one.
