My favorite line is not in the book:
"I am enthralled by carbine harvesters. In fact, I yearn to have one as a pet."

7/10. Edward Fox is very good. Yes, Fox is excellent, but this film is more than that. Not a moment of screen time is wasted. It really moves. The director makes full use of imagery of the locations across Paris, London, Austria, Italy. And we see a full-on state attempt to foil the assassination attempt, in contrast to a lot of our contemporary films, where the fate of all humanity is at stake yet there are, ridiculously, just 2 or 3 agents fighting the bad guys. Interesting to rewatch this film after just having watched The Assassination (1972) and To Catch a Thief. All different views of the French state & police/security forces.
