Who are you pulling for in the Kentucky Derby? My favorite is Midnight Bourbon because he is a very naughty horse. WKD likes Medina Spirit because its the only horse Bob Baffert has in this Derby. And they're off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Midnight Bourbon sounds good, to me. I know nothing about handicapping horses, so I go by name only.
I'll look at the list, but I love Manhattans, and "Midnight Bourbon," will be hard to beat.
Thanks for the reminder. I do like to watch the Derby.

Divtal: I know nothing about handicapping horses either, when I had a track to go to, I would bet on a horse for the silliest reasons, i.e. he had a limp or he took a huge poop while in the paddock or was being very hard to handle - Midnight Bourbon is a feisty horse.
My husband and his father and uncle knew all about handicapping and would study the racing forms, when I would go - I won just as often as the "experts" which would really irritate them especially since I bet on a lot of longshots.

My favorite "triple crown" horse, from the relatively recent past, was Smarty Jones. His name, and personality seemed to go together. I always had the impression that he KNEW that he was a "character," and that people responded to him. I think that he won the Derby, but fell in a subsequent race.  He was a sweetheart, and so many were in high hopes that he would win the Crown. |

Let's hope for a triple crown. Racing isn't as popular as it used to be. Our old haunts are no more, Arlington Park (a gorgeous track) is for sale, there's talk that the Chi Bears might build a stadium there. Balmoral Park in Crete, Il. where we used to watch the sulkies on a summer evening is now an equestrian center. I think Sportsman/Hawthorne Park is the only track left in the Chicago area. Sad.
