Laughable plastic copy of "punk". I'm with Lydon on his views on the band. Mind you it's always those that take other's ideas, water it down and make it bland and acceptable to the masses that get rich. Punk's very own "Vanilla Ice"

Great band! Working music retail, I had heard of them before the album "Dookie" was released. All of the skaters listened to Green Day. "Dookie" was released (sorry - just sounded that out - that sounds SO wrong) in the summer of 1994. "Basket Case" was the big song right when I started my first year of University. I thought their career had died a slow death right after the album "Warning" was released. However, it came back to life with the album "American Idiot". I usually don't buy live albums, but I picked up 'Bullet In A Bible' CD/DVD release. Just recently, they released the album "Father Of All...". The title track is AWESOME! Needless to say, I downloaded that from iTunes. Later on, I downloaded "Oh Yeah!" I'm hoping this will be a mainstay for arena rock. You know, when we can actually ATTEND sporting events. A few weeks later, iTunes had some albums on sale - "Father Of All..." being one of them. As I had already downloaded 2 of the tracks, it was going to only cost me something like $4 to download the rest of the album. LETS DO IT! BTW, I'm listening to the album "Father Of All..." as I write this. Joker's Wilde

I was watching Jeremy Vine's daytime show the other day, hosted by an original U K "Best of British" monarchist punk who always has his finger on the hot topic pulse to sell tickets, and he mentioned how for all the sneering and critical flack they received in the U K, Green Day music had conquered as they were simply great and stood the test of time. He'll never be called a national treasure.
I like Green Day, regardless of reputation, always did, always will.

I don't think I've ever actually listened to a full album of theirs, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to doing so, because I enjoy their hits.

They have some good albums but lately their music’s been utter garbage.

I love their 90s albums (Nimrod is such an underrated gem). Not really a huge fan outside of that.

Can't stand the genre. Takes something interesting and just dilutes it to mass public appeal. Maybe biased being part of the original scene in London 77/8 , it just seems to be a white middle class rebellion with dollar signs attached. As I say though, I'm probably a biased old fart, but proud of it.

I like this band, they paid their dues on the road unlike the worthless pricks that tried to call them out.

I second this. I saw them on their Pop Disaster Tour in 2002 that they co-headlined with Blink 182. Their set was before Blink 182's set, which was kind of a shame because they were a lot more fun. Billy Joe is a hell of a showman.

Sorry, but I hear no correlation whatsoever to Vanilla Ice. There's so many changes in a single Green Day song, to deny them any respect as songwriters seems to be a stinky patriot call born of the usual nothing. Don't mean to be rude here, just my honest opinion regarding the musical topic at hand.

I like them for the most part, and I don’t give half a shit if they aren’t “real punk”.
