I ask this about this time of year all the time. But now that grilling season is here which do you prefer? Gas or Charcoal grills and why?

Have never used gas. Love charcoal, but it can cook unevenly and burn things.

Sandman: Charcoal... for taste, plus I guess using actual coals appeals to my inner caveman.

Gas. I don’t have the patience or time for charcoal.

I admit, there's just something so fascinating about using charcoal, I've always thought so.

OK that's what I want to here. Depends on what? weather. steak always charcoal. fish? either. chicken? either. I use both. I think food tastes better on charcoal but I almost always use my gas grill. The reason. For the convenience. Turn it on and put your food on the grill. Plus you can adjust the heat. That being said probably the best steak I ever made was on a charcoal grill. If and when my gas grill breaks down I might invest in one of these. Best of both worlds. A Gas And Charcoal Grill Combo.

Charcoal IS better for taste, period, hard stop. Although as it was pointed out earlier in the thread, it's a bit more involved of a process and it can result in uneven cooking if you aren't careful.
But I have the gas line hooked right up to the grill so even though charcoal is better, the convenience of the gas line wins out for me.

I just had a T-Bone steak made on my charcoal grill. It was outstanding! Had macaroni salad with it.

How much grilling have people been doing? So far steaks, chicken, hotdogs and hamburgers. Still to come shrimp, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, etc.
