movies. Awesome, love it when respected actors feel they don't have to always do serious roles. Though I will point out Transformers 3 is way better than 5

Transformers 3 is awful, but I will admit it is more entertaining than The Last Knight.
However, Anthony Hopkins' performance in The Last Knight is better than anything in Transformers 3.

Even acclaimed actors aren’t necessarily above doing roles for a quick paycheck. With that said, the Transformers movies are pretty bottom of the barrel. There have been all kinds of conversations about how superhero movies aren’t true cinema, but the Michael Bay Transformers movies are about as schlocky and lazy as it gets.

Anthony Hopkins on "Transformers: The Last Knight: movieweb.com/transformers-last-knight-anthony-hopkins-doesnt-understand-story/"You're not going to ask me to explain the plot are you? Because it's so very complicated and there's the whole mythology of four previous films that come into play. I have to admit, I don't quite get all of it." "All I know is I play a highly educated, eccentric English lord. I had a terrific time making it. Mark Wahlberg was wonderful to work with, the locations were excellent (Northumberland, Norway, Arizona, the Isle of Skye and Stonehenge) and I showed up, put my costume on, said my lines and stayed out of trouble. That's all I ever do. It beats working for a living." "He [Hopkins' father] told me to go to Hollywood like Richard Burton and make some cash. That's why I came to Los Angeles all those years ago [in the mid-Seventies] and I fell in love with the sunshine, it's a great place to make a good living."

Orson Welles never saw the Transformers movie. He died shortly after he finished recording his lines. He clearly didn’t think much of the role, but it seems like a stretch to say that he hated it.

He hated the experience of taking part in it and thought it was beneath him to lend their voice to an overlong toy commercial, I believe were his words.

I don’t know, there’s still the Fifty Shades of Grey movies.

He hated the experience of taking part in it and thought it was beneath him to lend their voice to an overlong toy commercial, I believe were his words. It's hilarious when actors take a paycheck then act like they're above it all by complaining about the material. Like when Jim Carrey took a role in Kick-Ass 2 and then whined about all the violence. You aren't fooling anyone; if you have issues with the material, don't take the work. I hate those Transformers movies, but I respect Hopkins thoughts on being in it. He took the money and ran, it was all fun to him.

I don’t think Orson Welles ever said that the role was “beneath him.” Besides, Welles didn’t exactly have the most prestigious career. He famously did all kinds of commercial roles for a quick paycheck. People knew who he was, but his movies rarely did well financially. Anyway, I did some digging and a friend of Orson Welles had this to say in a Reddit AMA. Edit: I did some further digging and found this article.

It's odd how some are saying that he "hated" playing Unicron... That quote above, sounds like he wasn't a Fan of the Transformers, but it doesn't sound like he hated the role... In a documentary for the film, Cast and Crew said that he enjoyed being able to play a giant "Planet"... In a way, it stroked his ego... It's hard not to like that. Not sure what to believe... But I'll believe cast and crew who worked with him on the film, over some random posters on the internet saying, he "Hated" the role, since they haven't been able to provide a source for that claim.

I myself initially assumed that he hated the role and thought it was beneath him, so I can’t fault anyone who believes that themselves.
